The Crooked River Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) Coordinator is a full-time position based in Northeast Ohio. The incumbent will coordinate with the 13 conservation partners of the Crooked River CWMA. In addition, they will manage a 2-4-person restoration team that implements ecological restoration projects within the Cuyahoga River Watershed in Northeast Ohio.

The Crooked River CWMA Coordinator provides technical leadership and support to Ohio TNC program in Northeast Ohio to plan and direct restoration and stewardship activities.  The incumbent addresses critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among conservation community, and supplies Eco regional planning teams with information for site portfolios.  They develop and implement conservation projects and implement a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. They coordinate community support, manage partner relationships, implement multiple projects, set deadlines, and manage completion.

The Crooked River CWMA Coordinator will split time approximately 50:50 between office and field work. They will coordinate partnership with Crooked River CWMA members to develop working agreements, write site and watershed management plans, and develop grant proposals in support of the goals of the CWMA. The incumbent will manage day to day implementation and coordinate, set deadlines and manage completion of multiple grant funded restoration projects and restoration contracts concurrently and in collaboration with multiple project partners.  Field work will focus on ecological restoration with a focus on survey and control of invasive species through chemical and mechanical treatments. The incumbent will also be responsible for budget tracking; equipment preparation, use, and maintenance; accurate record keeping and reporting; and communicating to staff, volunteers, and the public about their work. Position is contingent upon funding with funding currently secured for 2 years.  It is anticipated that the incumbent will develop projects that will provide additional funding to maintain capacity.

• Supervises seasonal staff and develops workplans and directs day-to-day activities of 2-4-person Restoration Team.
• Responsible for managing grant and contract budgets, negotiating, and contracting with vendors, assisting with fundraising targets.
• Networks with diverse groups, including landowners, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members and the public to recruit support for the Conservancy and publicize Conservancy programs/preserves.
• Works under minimal and/or distant supervision; may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
• Controls invasive plant species through manual, chemical, and cultural practices and safely applies herbicides
• Works in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

• BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1-year related experience in ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in ecological land management particularly with managing invasive species and restoring habitat.
• Experience using herbicides to control invasive species.
• Experience with relationship building skills to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
• Experience operating and or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 1 – 2 years related experience in ecological land management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Some experience managing volunteers or entry level staff.
• Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects, including ability to create and follow timelines and deliver products and results in a timely fashion
• Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete restoration activities.
• Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation/conservation or similar field.
• Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
• Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
• Working knowledge of software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers, ArcGIS).
• Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
