Full-Time Executive Director, K-12 Partnerships

Position Details

The Executive Director, K-12 Partnerships will be based out of a home office.

 

Position Overview

The Executive Director, K-12 Partnerships is a senior external representative for New Leaders who creates and leads the execution of the strategy in their territory. The Executive Director will play a critical role in accelerating the growth and impact of New Leaders by identifying and cultivating prospective K-12 clients and opportunities, closing new K-12 business, and renewing/upselling current K-12 clients.

 

The Executive Director, K-12 Partnerships will assume a leadership position on the Partner Engagement Team and serve as a strategic thought partner to the Deputy Chief Officer, Partner Engagement and is a key player in cross-functional decision-making and initiatives. The Executive Director collaborates with other senior leaders on a variety of teams to ensure that cross-functional goals are achieved.

 

Specific Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Monitoring    

  • Create the strategy, establish the milestones, and develop and manage the strategic planning work processes for assigned
  • Develop strategies to meet ambitious sales goals across new and existing K-12 partnerships to deliver New Leaders’ full portfolio of school leadership development programs.
  • Develop proactive approach to strategic sales planning, anticipating impact on New Leaders programs and services resulting from competition, industry trends, etc. and pivot strategies and tactics accordingly.
  • Maintain an understanding of K-12 industry trends, current events, competitive offerings, funding sources, and territory developments by reading professional publications, researching all available resources, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Partner with internal teams (Development & External Relations and Policy) as well as current/prospective clients to identify federal and philanthropic funds that can be used to pay for New Leaders’ programs and services within territory.
  • Provide sales leadership, mentorship, and strategic support across the Partner Engagement Team and the wider organization, which may include: participation in strategic planning sessions such as the Senior Leadership Team; contributing to product ideation and content development processes; informing market research initiatives; collaborating with the Program Implementation Team on client engagement cycles; serving as an ambassador for the K-12 Partnerships Team across the organization; and sharing relevant industry data as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the K-12 Partnerships and Marketing & Communications Teams to ensure cohesion in the overall Partner Engagement strategy in support of the organization’s goals around scale, impact, and sustainability.

Business Development and Account Management

  • Combine outbound/inbound sales conversion tactics to achieve individual and territory sales goals.
  • Use a top-down, consultative sales approach to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with all key decision makers and key influencers within territory.
  • Identify, prioritize, and pursue key accounts within territory to achieve sales objectives based on a thorough understanding of partner data and needs assessments (i.e., demographics, strategic plans, funding, other key external influences, etc.).
  • Ensure that every prospective partner has a personalized cultivation plan that maximizes their engagement and likelihood of contracting with New Leaders.
  • Cultivate deep relationships with school, district/charter management organization, education service agency, local education association, and state-level stakeholders to accelerate strategic territory goals.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of New Leaders’ programs and service offerings.
  • Prepare and deliver solution-based presentations to key district personnel, and conduct prompt client follow-up calls and meetings.
  • Produce excellent, compelling written communications (i.e., emails, proposals, pitch decks) that convey, align with and/or generate New Leaders’ current and intended impact, in a powerful and inspiring way that is tailored to our partners’ interests.
  • Negotiate proposals and contracts that ensure profitable growth and are consistent with client expectations as well as New Leaders’ program design/implementation standards.
  • Maintain, share, and track customer account/opportunity information on an on-going basis through Salesforce to ensure continuous and up-to-date information is accessible to internal teams and partners.
  • Track weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance and sales metrics (activities & results).
  • Adhere to budget by managing travel, sales, and account management expenses.

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Build a pipeline of potential partners by leveraging the diversity of state and district/charter management organization-level connections among our Program and Development & External Relations Team members.
  • Communicate territory and pipeline updates with regular cadence to management team and other critical stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Manage up and sideways to ensure alignment on growth strategy, partnership opportunities, and roles/responsibilities to deliver contracts with excellence and streamline communication processes.
  • Collaborate with senior program staff nationwide to understand current client satisfaction, future needs, and likelihood of renewing or increasing their contract.
  • Collaborate with the Program and Finance Teams to package and price offerings for prospective partners.

Hiring, Coaching, and Supervising Staff Members

  • Coaches direct reports to set and hit ambitious yet feasible goals aligned with our organizational direction and build the knowledge and skills they need to achieve those goals and operate effectively in New Leaders’
  • Works with direct reports to build a strong pipeline, manage territory portfolio, and create team systems and structures for excellence in execution.
  • Models the practices and behaviors of an effective team member on a high-performing, results oriented team.

Skills, Experiences, and Competencies

Belief that every student, in every circumstance, can achieve the highest levels of academic excellence, and passionate commitment to New Leaders’ mission and vision.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience required, including sales, business development, and/or account management experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience selling highly consultative services in the K-12 market and achieving/surpassing annual revenue goals of $1M+ required.
  • Equity-driven with demonstrated ability to work well with people from a wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics; must be capable of achieving results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong network of district-level contacts in the K-12 market and ability to speak with authority on education-related topics.
  • Exceptional relationship builder with an unusual ability to understand clients’ motivations and concerns and proactively address them.
  • Excellent critical thinking with the ability to analyze and synthesize a multitude of information into a cohesive whole.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written/verbal communication, organizational, follow-up, consultative sales, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence laterally and manage “down”/ “up” to execute on tight timelines; able to operate with purpose, urgency, nimbleness, and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated comfort level with ambiguity in an ever-changing context.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% annually (temporarily suspended).
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
