POSITION: Full Stack Developer
REPORTS TO: Head of Product
LOCATION: Remote – lives in a timezone within 5 hours of PST
FULL-TIME
FREE THE WORK is a high-energy, fast-paced, entrepreneurial 501c3 organization seeking a proven, mission-aligned full-stack full-time developer to support the evolution of the FTW product and platform. You will be responsible for maintaining, improving, and scaling our two-sided marketplace and creative career resource destination. Working in partnership with the Product and Business Leads, you will help drive FTW’s technology strategy and software development projects, tackling technical problems as well as working with our Product and Customer Support team on usability issues. You will coordinate with any development agencies and/or technology vendors that are hired.
ABOUT YOU
- You enjoy solving technical challenges and being hands-on in the codebase
- You are an effective communicator with non-technical stakeholders and work well with a team to ensure projects stay on track
- You have built sites using React, Node.js, and TypeScript
- You have experience with search indices like Algolia or Elasticsearch, NoSQL databases like Firestore, and RDBMs like PostgreSQL
- You have successfully completed data migration projects as part of a team
- You love learning about and using best practices
- You are comfortable working in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Firebase
- You have experience working with a headless CMS like Contentful, Netlify, or Ghost.
- You are comfortable problem solving by identifying the right resources needed in any situation.
- You have great organizational skills and provide attention to detail

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work as an individual contributor to the codebase, technical architecture, and overall product
- Provide technical oversight to 3rd-party development agencies and/or freelance developers
- Participate in the vetting and hiring process for engineering resources
- Complete a data migration
- Work in collaboration with the Product team to improve and iterate on the current platform
- Communicate engineering objectives, options, and status with both technical and non-technical team members
- Work closely with Product and Business leads to scope projects for scheduling, timeline, resources, and budgets
- Ensure code quality and coding standards, scalable deployment management, and QA best practices
- Manage the growth of all facets of the company’s technical infrastructure
- Serve as a tech leader within the organization to explain any technical trade-offs
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years experience in engineering
- Experience building platforms, ideally with integrated two-sided marketplace functionality
- Experience with building on a headless CMS. Experience with Contentful/Ghost is a plus.
- Experience with being able to monitor platform health.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work on cross-functional teams
- Agile development environment experience
- Computer Science or equivalent experience that establishes a strong basis for understanding code frameworks, various coding languages, cost-benefit analysis, computing, and algorithms. Experience in big data and AI a plus.

SALARY/BENEFITS
$125,000 per year.
