Job Description

Agronomy Technician
Start April, until October – about 6 months contract
Shift: 7am- 5pm — typical work schedule about 35-50 hours per week
Variable based on weather and workload.
Work Environment: Agricultural field setting

Due to the nature of work in agriculture, work hours will be variable and may include overtime and weekends. Typical work schedule will result in 35-45 hours per week.

Position Overview: As an agronomy technician, you will work with the Research Agronomist to manage and maintain canola research plots in Montana. The private research trials that you manage will be used in the evaluation of specialty canola oil varieties with commercial potential. We are looking for highly ambitious, innovative, have desire for continuous learning and are able to quickly adapt to a rapidly evolving and highly motivated research team environment.
Capable to operate machinery: Tractor with GPS guidance with seeder. 100 Client with plot seeder. Learner GPS guidance.

Job tasks: You will assist in successful research trial management, which includes seeding, cultivating, spraying, harvesting, and data collection. You will operate and perform some maintenance on small plot equipment including seeders, sprayers, swathers, and combines. You will work with an interdisciplinary team including other research and support teams to organize resources effectively and to meet all business objectives.

Required: Working experience in an outdoor environment. Experience in Agriculture is huge plus.
Flexible hours occasionally to support specific events
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate machinery
• A valid US driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree in an agricultural discipline
• CDL endorsement
Familiarity with agriculture and rural communities. Experience with farm equipment a plus.
Clean driving record to occasionally drive company vehicles.
