MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION (MLE)

Traditional 235 work days 

FTE: 1.0

Salary Range: $68,683 – $83,116

  

Essential Functions and Objectives:

  

Coordinates and designs plans for effective instruction of secondary students in bilingual programs and provides support in the development of curriculum and the delivery of instruction related to secondary Multilingual Learners (MLLs). Provides leadership and professional development for District personnel to maximize learning for secondary MLLs using effective research based best instruction practices for bilingual programs.

Assesses and troubleshoots, escalates problems and interacts with stakeholders across the district to resolve problems related to area of responsibility.

Ensures appropriate key stakeholder involvement in planning, goal-setting, and implementation to achieve buy-in of work products. Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders.

Identifies process inefficiencies and proposes solutions, identifies opportunities through external bilingual education research on trends in resources, programs, and services and internal research with stakeholders, and supports improvement efforts in order to ensure smooth execution with appropriate participation and support across the district.

Provides leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and support of the District’s 6-12th grade bilingual programs.

Serves as a member of the K-12 Bilingual Programs team to plan and coordinate implementation of the secondary bilingual programs and to orchestrate program improvement efforts.

Contributes to the MLE team with providing best practice models, rubrics, protocols, metrics, competencies, and guidelines.

Best practice models, guidelines and classroom resources for teachers and building leaders.

Collaborates with instructional specialists to plan and deliver professional development for facilitators, teachers, and school administrators.

Supports native language instruction, assessment, techniques, and tools.

Facilitates and/or participates in committees related to bilingual education, including those related to the selection of instructional materials, methods, programs, and assessments.

Facilitates and participates in extensive professional development to deepen understanding of effective practices in teaching, reading, writing, speaking and listening for schools that are performing below expectations.

Partners with community groups and higher education institutions to coordinate special programs for schools.

Participates in the Program monitoring and evaluation processes.

– Performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested.

 

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

Minimum of five (5) years of bilingual (ELA-S) satisfactory teaching experience.

Experience in writing curriculum for Language Learners (LLs).

Experience in planning and providing professional development and working with adult learners.

Completion of District’s ELA Professional Development or Linguistically Different or Bilingual Endorsement/Masters preferred.

Proficiency with Google Products.

Effective time management and organizational skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and in Spanish required.

Strong attention to detail.

Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines.

The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.

Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other professional staff on instructional improvement issues.

High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.

Knowledge of best practices in Multilingual Education and Bilingual Programming instruction and standards-based education.

Knowledge of effective instructional programs and methodologies and experience in providing such instruction to meet state standards.

Commitment to continuous professional learning and maintaining current knowledge of research and trends. 

 

Education Requirements:

Master’s Degree with teaching license and record of special courses and /or professional development in ELA development and assessment.
