Position Purpose
This position provides leadership and direction for college-wide public relations, community outreach, campus communications, marketing, reputation building, and issues management. As a key member of the Marketing and Communications leadership team, this position is responsible for navigating complex media situations, researching facts to create talking points, preparing staff for interviews, consulting with campus experts, and engaging media on a variety of topics. The position oversees the creation and execution of marketing and engagement strategies to attract prospective students, strengthen understanding among opinion leaders, and remind the community of Evergreen’s unique quality and value, coordinating with colleagues throughout the college. These strategies include creating and editing content, social media management, advertising, campus newsletters, as well as developing effective pitches on Evergreen faculty, alumni, and student accomplishments for earned media coverage.
This position is engaged in the community, connecting with key institutions, stakeholders and individuals to advocate for Evergreen and advance college goals around recruitment, retention and reputation. The incumbent builds strong working relationships on and off campus in order to accomplish these objectives. The incumbent serves as the college’s main media spokesperson, lead for crisis/emergency communication, and communicates with authority on behalf of Evergreen.
This is a full-time overtime-exempt position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.
Salary and Benefits: $6,054 – $7,871 per month of full-time work + excellent benefits including paid sick and vacation leave; paid campus holidays; a generous medical, dental, life, and disability insurance package; and a tuition waiver program.
