POSITION DESCRIPTION
PowerMyLearning seeks to hire a Chief of Staff to optimize internal communications, strengthen internal culture, and maximize leadership capacity so we can successfully execute on our four-year strategic growth plan. The Chief of Staff will be a key member of the Executive Team and will report directly to (and work quite closely with) the CEO. The Chief of Staff will also have direct interaction with the board and have the “Executive Assistant to the CEO and President” (EA) as a direct report.
We are looking for a high performer who is passionate about our mission and is motivated by building effective relationships and leading projects that require interdisciplinary and strategic thinking. The ideal candidate will possess senior-level competencies in advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and in optimizing organizational structures, including meetings and retreats for leadership, all staff, and the board. This role will ensure the alignment of our goals to our values and commitment to DEI. This is a fast paced, versatile, juggle-a-lot-of-balls-with-attention-to-detail role. Candidates should thrive at approaching projects with a cross-functional mindset and have exemplary skills in deftly managing myriad relationships inside the organization and with the board.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organization-Wide Values and DEI
- Serve as an exemplary model of our DEI-infused values and ensure these values are living in every work stream
- Develop meaningful relationships across lines of difference and help others do the same. Exhibit thoughtfulness about people and culture
- Ensure that our long-term and near-term (annual) plans fully reflect an equity lens and our equity identity
- Serve on the DEI Committee and support Co-Chairs in coordination and planning efforts as needed
Internal Communications and Culture
- Create and manage systems for internal communications to strengthen staff culture, achieve organizational priorities, and drive feedback for continuous improvement
- Achieve staff alignment to our strategic plan
- Ensure timely roll out of key information and ensure that staff feel heard and understood
- Create spaces where staff can “say the thing” and provide upward feedback to leadership
- Stay connected to the heartbeat of the organization, providing on-the-ground insight into opportunities and issues that impact PowerMyLearning’s success
- Administer staff satisfaction surveys, analyze results, and share with the organization
Leadership and Meeting Structures
- Serve as critical thought-partner to the CEO and executive team, while providing sound counsel and maintaining confidentiality
- Optimize meeting culture to incorporate best practices found in virtual organizations
- Improve key meetings and retreats (e.g., executive leadership team meetings, leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and staff retreats) and strengthen culture-building activities
- Support current staff collaboration committees that have been created to address cross-organizational objectives and support the launch of any new committees that may be needed
- Steer organization-wide annual goal setting process and track progress towards those goals by building and managing organizational dashboards
- Identify areas of concern within the organization, learn the root causes, and support development of proposals for solutions
- Institutionalize best practices pertaining to knowledge management and knowledge transfer
Board of Directors Involvement
- Plan and develop materials for all board meetings, including identifying high priority topics for board input and drafting agendas. Work with the EA to ensure strong operational preparation and follow up
- Attend board meetings and iterate on meeting improvements with the CEO and Board Chair
- Staff the board Governance Committee and support the process of identifying and attracting new board candidates
- Staff the board Anti-Racism Task Force and coordinate collaboration between this task force and the DEI Committee
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years experience of involvement in DEI initiatives
- Track record of building trust and respect with a large range of people and working cohesively to achieve an organization’s mission
