Full-Time Vice President of Advertising

Job Description

SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a Vice President of Advertising who will work with all HBG imprints to develop and execute cutting-edge advertising campaigns for our books and authors. The VP of Advertising will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and work in tandem with our imprints’ creative and marketing teams and the corporate marketing analytics team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced advertising professional with a proven track record of managing the end-to-end process of media planning and campaign deployment, a deep appreciation of creative excellence within an evolving media landscape, and a diligent focus on delivering business value and ROI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the end-to-end process of media planning and campaign deployment, ensuring timelines are met and work is delivered within budget.
  • Forge close relationships with the imprint’s creative and marketing teams, providing strong consultation on the creative process.
  • Negotiate favorable terms with media networks, leveraging the scale of the HBG group to secure best rates.
  • Collaborate closely with the central marketing analytics team to develop rigorous reporting and analysis of advertising results. Identify performance standards, measure progress against KPIs, and adjust performance accordingly. Demonstrate adaptability and support continuous learning.
  • Develop and leverage deep audience insights to ensure optimal ad targeting and creative development, with a proven sensitivity for reaching and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Define and develop a creative tone of voice and aesthetic to support each of our books and authors in an authentic and original way.
  • Lead video production through inhouse and external resources.
  • Provide supervision and development opportunities for a small team of direct reports. Assign duties, develop workflows, build a team-based work environment, establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to be versatile and creative with a broad product portfolio. Our books range from commercial franchise authors, to serious non-fiction, and books for children and teens.
  • Strong knowledge of audience insights development and audience segmentation strategies
  • *Proven track record creating advertising campaigns that reach and engage diverse audiences
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and forge ties with stakeholders
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor staff; experience managing direct reports and developing an effective team preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A well-rounded understanding of the media landscape, contacts in the media advertising realm or demonstrated ability to develop contacts, and the ability to develop partnerships and negotiate deals
  • Unflappable attention to detail and ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • *Experience driving results while balancing creativity with business strategy
  • *Minimum 10+ years experiences in Advertising and/or marketing

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience with video production and video advertising
  • Familiarity with multi-channel campaign strategies and an appreciation of the opportunities for synergy between organic DTC marketing and advertising
  • A proven track record of innovative, creative thinking, and developing new ideas to reach and engage consumers
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, or related field
