Organizational Description:

Friends of Ruby provides comprehensive and progressive support to LGBTQI2S youth, aged 16-29, well-being through housing and social services.

Friends of Ruby operates a counselling and drop-in centre and soon to be open, the Friends of Ruby Home, a major new initiative which is well underway. The Home will provide transitional and emergency housing, as well as mental health and wellness support services, dedicated to serving homeless LGBTQI2S Youth, aged 16 to 29.

 

Job Description:

The Development & Grants Officer will join the Direct Marketing and Development team and will play an integral role supporting the Director of Development and Direct Marketing’s fundraising and fund development goals by writing winning grants and proposals; prospect research; and developing email marketing and digital fundraising campaigns.

 

The successful candidate will have experience in grant writing, major giving/business development, understands the fundraising cycle, has use a CRM database for at least a year.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify prospective new donors and funding opportunities and proactively initiate sponsorship and funding
  • Actively research and apply for grants between $10,000-$100,000+
  • Administer and manage the full cycle of grants, aligned with Friends of Ruby’s strategic mission and direction, including but not limited to: research, prepare proposals, manage planning and execution, regular communications with stakeholders, writing reports etc.
  • Conduct new prospect research and analysis, develop briefing notes, presentations and grant proposals
  • Gather competitive information and identify potential opportunities and challenges in government funding, private foundations and corporate community/corporate foundations
  • Write grant applications, proposals, and solicitation letters for Corporate and Foundation donors for a broad range of programs and initiatives
  • Maintain regular communications with assigned stakeholders, as per the Director of development
  • Develop proposals and donor stewardship materials
  • Support CRM reporting and donor data upkeep
  • And other duties, as directed, for the delivery of the department’s strategic priorities and/or to meet key deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma in nonprofit management or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of institutional fundraising experience or business development, with a focus on proposal/grant writing and prospect research
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with successful track record in crafting effective and compelling proposals, reports and budgets to meet specified guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with donors, using skill, tact, discretion and compassion
  • Excellent negotiations skills with the ability to influence decisions to achieve objectives while maintaining policy
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a busy environment, to work well under pressure, and to prioritize tasks appropriately while meeting time-sensitive demands.
  • CRM data experience for at least a year
  • Has experience working in a not-for-profit, LGBTQI2S community and/or social justice environment
  • Has knowledge / lived experience with the diverse experiences of LGBTQI2S communities
  • Experience working with a diverse team and promoting a positive brand image

 

 

Additional requirements

  • Must be qualified to legally work in Canada
  • Willing to work at a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization
  • Ability to work from home and from the office located in Downtown Toronto
