Full-Time Nurse Practitioner Specialist
Job Description
The Nurse Practitioner Specialist (NPS) provides comprehensive medical evaluation, education, and management for clients that present for routine, preventative, acute, and chronic disease and specialty health care services at the clinic site. The NPS will coordinate all of the services necessary for health promotion, maintenance, rehabilitation, and the prevention of disease and disability.

Essential Functions
- Assesses and interprets medical and psycho-social histories; performs physical examinations (including gynecological and breast examination as appropriate); identifies problems; formulates a plan of treatment; provides education and referral (as indicated); and evaluates the effectiveness of the interventions prescribed;
- Consults with or refers clients with abnormal conditions or other medical, psychological, or social problems to the collaborating physician, or other appropriate referral course when indicated;
- Performs or orders laboratory tests and interprets the results as part of health management. Reports communicable disease in a timely manner to the appropriate health department, as per health center protocol;
- Orders medications;
- Follows established treatment guidelines as indicated by health center protocols;
- Conduct health teaching and counseling during the medical encounter, as appropriate, enabling the client to make informed choices about health and treatment options;
- Completes the client’s Clinical Record documentation in a timely manner, specific to the applicable policies and procedures of the health center;
- Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities;
- Participates in Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities to enhance professionalism and to ensure quality of care;
- Conducts HRA procedures;
- Works collaboratively with all members of the health center to build a supportive team;
- Applies infection control measures according to Health Center Policies and Procedures;
- Maintains professionalism and adheres to client confidentiality;
- Participates in leadership meetings and strategic plans for the DAP Health Center;
- Demonstrate superior mentoring and supervisory skills that engenders strong Clinical Leadership.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Degree in Nursing;
- Two-Four Years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner;
- Previous experience with an electronic health record; preferred EPIC.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience and knowledge of HIV/AIDS primary care;
- Managing clients with substance abuse;
- Auditory acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and perform medical procedures as indicated;
- HRA Certification
- Maintains DEA registration;
- Experience working with an ANCHOR Study
- Bilingual/Spanish.
License(s) and Certification(s)
- Licensed to practice as a CA Nurse Practitioner;
- Current Registered Nurse License with the State of CA
- Certified by ANCC or AANP.
- Maintains CMEs/CEUs required for licensure;
- Blood Maintains Infection Control Certification;
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
This job operates in a clinical set and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, walking, speaking and repetitive motion. Ability to lift up to 24 pounds. Job usually involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens, is possible. Access to patient protected health information required.
