Full-Time Security Guard
Job Description
Working under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the Security Guard will perform a variety of tasks throughout their shifts. These tasks may include patrolling the facility on foot or in a vehicle, working at the entrance/exit to the facility and answering phones, locking and unlocking doors, greeting guests and employees and monitoring closed circuit television systems, and alarms. Security guards act as a visible deterrent to crime, they detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal acts or client rule infractions at or near assigned post which may be a threat to the property, clients, guests or employees at the site.

Reports to: Security Supervisor
Essential Functions
- Main duty is to protect people, property, information, and reputation;
- Monitor entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises;
- Monitor security cameras for inappropriate activity;
- Patrol building and premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates;
- Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property;
- Responds rapidly to security emergencies within the hospital or health care setting;
- Answer alarms and investigate disturbances;
- Notify Maxwell Security for any unruly persons we need assistance with to remove them from the premises;
- Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons;
- Participate as Crisis Intervention Team member to respond to staff crisis buttons;
- Becomes involved with patients when assistance is requested by medical or nursing staff, or when patients or their families ask for assistance or information;
- Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences;
- Visually inspect equipment and machinery to detect evidence of tampering;
- Accept deliveries and contact appropriate department to pick up;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Graduate from a high school, or possession of a certificate of proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or possession of a G.E.D. certificate;
- Candidate must not have been convicted of any felony or crime involving moral turpitude.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations of the protection of people, data, property, and institutions;
- Two years security related experience in a healthcare setting or related field.
License(s) and Certification(s)
- Active and unrestricted California Guard Card;
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification;
- Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean driving record and, access to a reliable vehicle and up-to-date auto insurance.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
This job operates in internal and external parts of the buildings and requires constant times of standing, walking and some repetitive motion, ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Potential exposure to hazardous materials, potential exposure to allergen/irritants and extreme temperatures. No direct patient contact under normal circumstances is required. No exposure involvement to blood, body fluids and non-intact skin or tissue specimens required and no access to patient protected health information.
