YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Nature Conservancy Fellowship Program is focused on developing the conservation leaders of tomorrow. The program is designed to provide early career conservation professionals (i.e., recent college graduates with 0-2 years of job experience) from underrepresented groups with the opportunity to work in an environment that combines a deep-dive into a real-world conservation projects with a broad introduction to major conservation issues. Additionally, the fellowship program is designed to orient the Fellow to the inner workings of The Nature Conservancy as a representation of a non-governmental organizations.
In this program, the Fellow will have the opportunity to work with Conservancy Staff across multiple dimensions of the conservation discipline, including science, restoration, policy, land protection, and strategic communications. Furthermore, the Fellowship is designed to emphasize those experiences the individual wants or needs to prepare them for their conservation career.

We are specifically seeking a Fellow to work on one of the following positions:
1. Conservation Scientist – Uses TNC’s Global Challenges Global Solutions framework to maintain our leadership in the conservation arena. They produce cutting-edge science on the connections between humans and nature and then provide research outputs. As a member of our Michigan Science Team, works to research, gather, and analyze data in support of the Conservancy’s strategies for 1. Protection of Land and Water, 2. Tackling Climate Change, 3. Providing Food and Water Sustainably (Agriculture and Fisheries), and, 4. Building Health Cities. This position will focus on setting science-based priorities and evaluating the effectiveness of TNCs conservation projects.

2. Policy/Finance Analyst – Sustainability and Climate – The Conservancy is helping to shape the government policies and corporate practices by which critical conservation and investment decisions are made so that it will be possible to achieve the transformative conservation outcomes our world requires. This position will focus on policy, legislative and/or financial analyses with consideration of sustainability goals that help formulate TNC’s climate policy, mitigation and adaptation efforts.
Note: This position lasts for a period of 2 Years.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The fellowship will include a range of activities from research, project management and implementation, peer networking, and field learning experiences. More specifically, activities of the Fellow will be characterized by:
Cutting edge analysis to inform conservation science, natural or working lands management, finance and/or policy.
Developing new skills and knowledge through training and mentorship in conservation science, natural or working lands management, conservation finance and/or policy.
Helping identify and implement innovative conservation solutions that lead to tangible, lasting, results for nature and people.
Helping TNC build partnerships with academic institutions, agencies, businesses and other NGOs in support of conservation science.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Perform fieldwork including ecosystem assessment and field monitoring.
Deliver tools, biodiversity data, field services and training to staff and partners.
May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in policy, science, sustainability, and/or a natural resource management related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
0-2 years of relevant work experience.
Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting information.
Experience preparing and communicating (verbal, graphical and written) reports of findings.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Strong knowledge of computer technology and common software applications.
Attention to detail.
Ability to meet deadlines.
