WFP Digital Organizer – Criminal Justice Reform (CJR) Program

WFP is building a national mass base working class party. We’re investing in building the base our country needs. WFP Organizers are part of a cadre of skilled organizers that help us build membership and elect transformative leaders to office. 

WFP is seeking an Organizer who can engage, mobilize and activate WFP members, allies and activists to advance our strategic goals.This person will build independent, progressive political power through developing, leading and executing organizing drives and campaigns that build our base and elect progressive criminal justice reformers.

Location

This job will require some travel. In the immediate future we plan to run campaigns in Michigan and as such people with previous experience or roots in those states are strongly encouraged to apply, however that is not a requirement.

Employment Term

This position is full-time salaried through December 2020. The position may be renewed depending on available funding and demonstrable campaign impact.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with Director on strategic goals and in support of WFP Criminal Justice initiatives
  • Build grassroots support for WFP’s criminal justice work and WFP as a whole by organizing and managing online and volunteer canvass operations, that engage members of affiliated organizations, and organizing community round tables
  • Maintain a rigorous schedule of relational meetings to develop relationships with labor and community based organizations in specific geographies, especially those advancing Criminal Justice Reform
  • Ensure the organizing of spring convenings that gather party supporters and members for training and leadership development, that ultimately deepen their commitment to the party and engage them in key Criminal Justice related races
  • Research and prepare written materials, on issues related to Labor & Criminal Justice
  • Ensure tracking of supporters and members and their leadership development in CRM/database, and build a team of volunteers capable of doing this in the future
  • Amplify the electoral work of our field organizers, volunteers, communications team, stakeholders, and principals via online and offline engagement strategies.
  • Review support requests and respond to tickets
  • Produce creative content for WFP’s social networking sites
  • Assist in the execution of rapid response social media
  • Recommend and initiate new technologies & improvements to our work
  • Support WFP endorsed campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements

  • A sincere passion and commitment to social, economic, and racial justice and building power for working people
  • Preferred: 3 to 5 years’ (or more) experience in digital organizing.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills;
  • A willingness to learn, the ability to work hard with irregular hours, and the ability to work independently with guidance as well as within a team.
  • Proven organizing ability, and effectiveness engaging potential activists, supporters, institutional leaders and current and prospective elected officials.
