Part-Time Trustee
Job Description
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Trustee of Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Limited (GBWR). Wheelchair Rugby is an exhilarating sport played by athletes with often severe physical impairments. It has grown rapidly in recent years, overseen by a dedicated team of GBWR staff, trustees and volunteers.
As the end of this Paralympic cycle approaches, the Board are now looking to appoint new trustees to join us and help steer the sport through to the Paralympics 2024 and beyond. The Board believes that this is a particularly exciting time for the sport. At the elite level wheelchair rugby, aka ‘murder ball’ was of one of the biggest hits of the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Since Rio, the GB team has been on an upward trajectory, is now ranked fourth in the world, and is well placed to challenge for our first Paralympic medal at the Tokyo Games, in summer 2021. At grassroots, the sport is thriving, with not only a growing number of clubs and members, but also with new disciplines now established offering the sport to a wider range of disability groups.
We are seeking new trustees with a range of expertise. We particularly require a trustee with accounting/financial skills and another with experience in corporate governance, ideally within sport. In addition, we are interested in candidates with a commercial background, and those who have worked in a high- performance sporting environment.
Candidates should have a passion for sport with an awareness of the social impact that sport plays in our communities.
Board meetings take place in Central London. The Head Office of GBWR is at Twickenham Stadium, London. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake some travel, both national and international in connection with this role.
The role is non-remunerated. Reasonable expenses incurred on official GBWR business will be reimbursed.
