Essential Functions and Objectives:
Administers and manages activities within a specific area of a responsibility. Serves as the subject matter expert and applies gained knowledge to execute, maintain and improve systems, programs, or processes.
The Adapted Elementary Sex Education Specialist primary responsibility is the co-facilitation of adapted comprehensive sex education instruction in DPS Elementary schools. Co-instruction will take place in center-based classrooms for students in the Multi-Intensive or Affective Needs Program.
– Provides various support and conducts activities related to logistics, reporting, training, communications, and processes. Participates in the planning and implementation of new initiative.
– Assesses and troubleshoots escalated problems and applies expert understanding to resolve complex challenges of stakeholders; focuses on root cause identification in order to achieve systemic and sustainable improvement. Approves and documents exceptions for compliance record keeping and reporting.
– Ensures appropriate key stakeholder involvement in planning, goal-setting, and implementation to achieve buy-in of work products. Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders; enables consistent application of work products across the district.
– Identifies opportunities for improvement, prioritizes, and recommends solutions to management. Implements approved enhancements to ensure consistency across the district. Identifies opportunities to reduce costs; analyzes available data, trends, and feedback, and ensures compliance with expectations for optimal operation and goal achievement.
– Observe co-facilitators and provide content based feedback specific to adapted sex education curriculum.
– Work in collaboration with school staff to assess program needs within their special education department. Develop a sustainable instructional action plan at each school. Design professional development opportunities for teachers and school support staff.
– Provide high-quality sex education instruction to elementary schools for students in center-based Multi-Intensive and Affective Needs Programs. Identify and collaborate with community-based organizations in order to support parent involvement with the sex education curriculum.
– Liaison with various internal departments to derive collaboration and project success.
– Build and co-facilitate parent workshops so that parents can feel empowered to have healthy dialogue with their children at home regarding comprehensive sex education.
– Other Duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
– 3+ years of experience in health or education.
– Experience working with students with special needs.
– Knowledge with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
– Effective time management and organizational skills.
– Effective communication skills.
– Strong attention to detail.
– Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.
– The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
– Work collaboratively with others on a team.
– Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and fast-paced environment.
– Second language Acquisition.
– Facilitate, design, and plan, adult professional learning.
– Spanish fluency preferred.
Education Requirements:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Education, or Special Education required.
– Master’s Degree preferred.
