Summary
HMRC are introducing an undergraduate intern placement scheme starting in 2020. This placement will give you a true flavour of working in HMRC, and what will be in store for you should you join the organisation. You will learn “hands-on” skills that University can’t really teach. It is a fantastic learning opportunity for you.
You’ll work in a real working environment and have a role and responsibilities from day one. You’ll gain vital skills, behaviours and knowledge and have support throughout your placement from your manager and colleagues.
To be eligible for these placements you must:
• be studying towards an undergraduate degree and eligible for a ‘sandwich’ intern year or taking a gap year;
• be available to work in Nottingham or Liverpool throughout the whole period of the placement;
• be fluent in English;
Job description
The Fraud Investigation Services Directorates provides HMRC with an effective investigation arm to enforce the Department’s policies. This enables the Department to deliver against the strategic responsibilities across all taxes and duties it administers.
Responsibilities
The role involves working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure we have the correct performance measures in place relevant to Criminal and Civil interventions. You will be following processes within challenging timescales. In this role you will deal with external correspondence, maintain accurate records and will engage proactively and effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

The role requires excellent interpersonal skills to provide the level of customer service required in what is a very fast paced and active environment. You must be able to work collaboratively, be enthusiastic and eager to learn.
