Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is in search of a full-time non-exempt Billing Specialist to join one of its offices in St. Louis, Chicago, or Los Angeles. Under the supervision of the Billing Manager, the Billing Specialist provides billing services for all attorneys, legal administrative assistants, and staff. This position also prepares and submits invoices through various electronic systems and monitors invoices to ensure processing and payment. This position must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within billing. After an initial period of training, this position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes Aderant Expert, PreBill Manager, BillBlast or similar software to process client bills.
- Ensures that bills and the billing process adhere to Firm guidelines, quality standards, deadlines, and procedures.
- Communicates effectively and timely with supervisor, clients, e-billing vendors, attorneys, and assistants on all billing-related issues.
- Researches and responds to billing-related issues timely and effectively.
- Works with the Billing Team Lead and Billing Manager in identifying billing trends and proactively seeks ways to improve current processes and maximize efficiency within the group.
Experience and Education Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with two or more years of experience in professional services billing is required; or an Associate Degree in Business Administration with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a finance or accounting position.
- Familiar with a professional services firm billing process and e-billing experience preferred.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of billing rates, alternative fee arrangements, bill groups, and related billing topics and systems such as Expert Image or similar electronic document storage software.
