Full-Time Industrial Hygienist
Job Description
We are looking for an Industrial Hygienist to join our team in Palo Alto, California. In this vital role, you will support the facilitation of VAPAHCS’ Green Environmental Management Program and Green Environmental Management System (GEMS). You will be responsible for ensuring safety and occupational health across all hospital operations.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and conduct the collection, transportation, segregation, and manifestation of hazardous wastes/materials in compliance with regulations.
- Develop, implement, and assess policies and procedures for waste management, renewable energy initiatives, recycling, and pollution reduction and prevention.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to convey safety information and procedures to staff and stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, NFPA Fire Codes, and other relevant standards in practical situations.
- Maintain and update databases and logs related to safety and environmental management, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative respiratory fit testing and provide training on the proper use of respiratory protection devices.
- Evaluate workplaces for potential occupational hazards, conducting surveys and collecting samples to identify issues such as noise, mold, and air quality.
- Prioritize customer service by treating VA customers courteously, tactfully, and respectfully.
- Assist with safety-related activities under the guidance of a government-provided subject matter expert, covering areas such as Occupational Safety and Health, Life Safety, Fire Safety, and Emergency Management.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as necessary to support overall safety and environmental goals.
Qualifications:
- Preferably a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with training, certification, experience, or coursework in Industrial Hygiene.
- Experience in green environmental management activities is highly desirable.
- Valid California Non-Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various environmental conditions, including cramped, noisy, and extreme weather environments.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA Fire Codes, and relevant safety standards.
- Knowledge of confined space regulations and procedures for safe entry.
- Ability to pass a background/clearance investigation.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability and safety.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).
- Willing to work in Palo Alto, California.
