The Department of Architecture at Ball State University seeks applicants for multiple part-time semester instructor positions available January 2025

The courses include either 3 or 6 credit hour courses (studio, and lecture courses) for Architecture students located in Muncie and/or Indianapolis.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching either design studio or seminar courses in the degree programs in Architecture.

Minimum Qualifications: An accredited Master of Architecture degree, Master’s degree of specialization within the discipline of Architecture, or Bachelor of Architecture degree from an accredited institution, or candidate may qualify based on Tested Experience Criteria:

In lieu of a terminal degree a minimum of 4 of the following 7 expectations per “types of tested experience” category must be met to teach at the GRADUATE level. Terminal degrees in architecture and historic preservation are M.Arch and MSHP, respectively, or Master’s in related professional discipline; PhD in history.

  • Successful passing of professional registration exam in architecture or related professional discipline (Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, interior design, etc.) in a US or international jurisdiction.
  • Active license to practice in architecture or related professional discipline (Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, etc.) in a US or international jurisdiction.
  • Cumulative 5+ examples of: publication in peer reviewed journals such as JAE, Architecture, APT Bulletin (Association of Preservation Technology), Journal for Preservation Education and Research, or equivalent; substantial studies as published by the government, professional associations, or research institutes; authorship of awarded design work in design competitions at local, state, national or international level; publication of book chapters in a discipline related publications; authorship of published textbook in discipline related area; publication of a book in discipline related area; presentations at state, national or international conferences in architecture, HP, engineering or related discipline such as AIA, ACSA, EDRA, UIA, etc; credits, certificates or degrees earned at the graduate level in programs as certified by the respective discipline; credits or certificates in architecture and allied fields earned through recognized professional organizations; EITHER/OR: 10+ years of professional experience in architecture or related professional discipline (Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, etc.) OR 20+ years of teaching experience in higher education in a professional degree program.
  • Cumulative 4 + examples of the following (can be multiple examples of same type): State or local AIA chapter award for a project with a leadership role; National AIA award for either a leadership role or project team member; college/university/national award for teaching excellence in a professional degree program; local/state/national award for professional excellence in related design discipline (Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Interior Design, etc.); awards to students under the direct supervision of the faculty member such as studio-based or extra-curricular competitions; other as reviewed.
  • Cumulative 4+ of following: invited lectures/presentations regarding professional work or educational work in a professional program; presentation at state, national or
    international conferences in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Interior Design or Engineering such as AIA, ACSA, EDRA, UIA, Beginning Design Student, etc.; peer reviewed national state or local.
  • Cumulative 2+ of following: leadership role on professional boards (example: Vice President of the AIA Indianapolis chapter); participation in a professional jury (AIA awards for example); other professional organization participation as reviewed.
  • Cumulative 4+ of the following: AIA full Member; NCARB Certification; LEED Professional; certification from the international Living Future institute; registered interior designer; NCIDQ (national council for interior design qualification); other as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional license in Architecture; Master degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited college or university; evidence of quality of design work; evidence of contributions to the profession through professional practice and service; a record of quality teaching experience; evidence of quality scholarship; experience with contemporary design media.
