Full-Time Lead Fleet and Equipment Mechanic
Job Description
The City of Oshkosh is seeking a skilled and dedicated Lead Fleet and Equipment Mechanic. This pivotal role involves maintaining and repairing a range of light and heavy-duty vehicles and off-road equipment. You’ll use your expertise in gasoline, diesel, and hydraulic systems to direct and assist our team of mechanics. This position allows for independent judgment under general supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Assist the Public Works Mechanic Manager in leading and assigning daily operation tasks to the central garage team.
- Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanic and electrical problems and determine the most effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
- Equipment Repairs: Inspect, repair, recondition and maintain equipment and machinery including but not limited to cars, trucks, trailers, tractors, end loaders, etc.
- Record Keeping: Accurately manage and process electronic work orders.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited Technical College in Automotive, Diesel or Heavy Mechanics with five (5) years of experience; or, eight (8) years experience with progressively advanced training working on diesel engines, or heavy equipment in lieu of a degree.
- Knowledge in the use of diagnostic equipment for electrical systems including, but not limited to, electronic engines and transmissions.
- Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin CDL, Class A with N endorsement and no air brake restriction.
- Possess the EPA 609 Technician Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
