This is an exciting decade to be a part of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as we galvanize momentum to address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change across the globe. This urgency is particularly pronounced in TNC’s 2030 goals.
The Conservation Trust Fund (CTF) and Safeguards Program Associate will support the development and implementation of a portfolio of conservation finance projects, working with matrixed teams over various stages of a project lifecycle. The CTF and Safeguards Program Associate will be part of the CTF and Safeguards team, which is part of TNC’s Global Protect Oceans, Lands, and Waters program, and will support two main conservation finance strategies implemented by TNC in different countries, the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) and the Nature Bonds.
The Program Associate is a new position and will report to the CTF Specialist, delivering administrative, logistical, operational and technical tasks and activities related to both CTF and Safeguards workstreams. The CTF and Safeguards team works in a portfolio of projects worldwide, and the Associate’s support will enhance the ability of the team to provide the required technical deliverables with high quality on time. This work includes interacting daily with complex, cross-functional global and country teams of TNC and potentially with key external stakeholders.
The Program Associate will work at the portfolio and project levels. At the portfolio level, this will include participating in the team’s strategic planning; supporting the development and improvement of standardized processes, including the development of deliverable templates, tools and slide-decks; development and update of databases to consolidate and track key information across the portfolio and make information available by managing access to contents; supporting knowledge management activities, such as maintaining and disseminating capacity building and communication materials, and participating in the development of best practices based on lessons learned.
At the project level, the Associate will help prepare technical deliverables based on the templates developed for the different stages for the CTF or the Safeguards workstreams, under the guidance of the CTF/ Safeguards workstreams leads; develop and maintain updated timelines for CTF/ Safeguards workstreams; prepare and disseminate Terms of Reference for hiring consultancies, supporting the selection of proposals and conducting contracting and payments to consultants; lead and/or support the organization of online and face-to-face events, including logistical and technical activities; participate in key meetings with the CTF or Safeguards leads and help them to prepare concise notes and identify action points; any other additional tasks to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the team.

The ideal candidate should have exceptional project management, communication, collaboration, and organization skills focusing on accuracy and attention to detail. This work combines broad responsibilities to support critical processes with administrative duties. Because of that, experience coordinating information, providing active support to designing, organizing, and directing complex projects, and the ability to collaborate across culturally diverse, multi-disciplinary teams and work groups are required.
This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance. It requires willingness and ability to travel up to 10-15% both domestically and internationally, and may require evening and weekend hours.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in conservation, business, finance, policy, or any other related field and 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience supporting the management of projects or strategic initiatives in a complex environment.
- Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
- Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading for technical and informational purposes.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4 years of experience supporting the operational, administrative, technical and logistical management of complex projects. Experience supporting international projects and initiatives experience is desirable.
- Experience working across multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills and proactive problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated attention to details, with ability to suggest new strategic and operational ideas, approaches, or processes.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, sometimes under pressure, in a highly matrixed, cross-functional, decentralized and collaborative organization.
- Ability to analyze and summarize data and information to coordinate and plan activities, and to generate reports, timelines, slide-decks.
- Experience with project management approaches, tools, and software, such as Highly Effective Teams (internal TNC project management approach), Agile, Smartsheets, Microsoft Project, etc.
- Experience with marine, freshwater, or terrestrial conservation projects.
- Familiarity with finance, business, government relations, and/or environmental policy and practices and their relation with conservation strategies and initiatives.
- Strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization.
- Demonstrated English writing and speaking proficiency is essential.
- Ability to write and speak in additional languages, such as Spanish, or French, is highly desirable.

Salary Information:
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $60,000 – $85,000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
