Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Annual Giving oversees the annual donor portfolio, helping to build this critical pipeline of mass support through the delivery of multi-channel fundraising campaigns and an annual calendar of donor stewardship and engagement activities.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Donor Response Marketing (DRM), the Senior Manager is a key member of a high-performing team, responsible for the development and implementation of the annual donor journey, as well as the execution of acquisition and renewal campaigns. The Senior Manager works collaboratively across the organization to source compelling campaign and donor communications content, and to identify opportunities to include annual donors in cross-departmental engagement initiatives, continually developing and driving recommendations to optimize annual donor engagement and grow unrestricted revenue.

Location: 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule with the expectation of being in office 1-2 days a week.

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of multi-channel annual donor campaigns, from campaign planning and concept development to ensuring all multi-channel fundraising campaigns are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Managing relationships with agencies, vendors, and internal and external stakeholders through the campaign lifecycle.
  • Supporting the Executive Director, DRM in the development of a new multi-channel annual donor acquisition strategy, managing and implementing the annual mix of campaign tactics which offer the strongest ROI for the annual program portfolio.
  • Working with external agencies and vendors, DRM team members and internal stakeholders to conduct reviews and analyses of fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives to identify key insights and make data-driven recommendations for improvements for fundraising campaigns, and the annual donor journey.
  • Working with internal stakeholders, external agencies and vendors to develop and maintain sustainable and scalable CRM data management processes related to annual donor fundraising operations including campaign data management, and documentations of donor communication preferences and donor journey touchpoints.
  • Collaborating with the Mission and Marketing Communications teams to identify, and source, relevant and impactful content (including people with lived experience stories, mission activity updates and population impact statistics) to create urgent and compelling multi-channel campaigns and donor stewardship communications.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to effectively integrate annual donors into existing stewardship activities and cross-organizational communications.
  • Working with Executive Director, DRM to ensure the integration of monthly, tribute and planned giving opportunities within the annual donor journey.
  • Managing annual donor campaign & communications budget, monitoring and reporting on revenue and expenses, and holding vendors accountable to budgets established as part of the annual planning process; supports the Executive Director, DRM in preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Providing leadership and ongoing coaching, mentoring and development to the Specialist, Digital and Direct Response.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience in direct response fundraising; experience working within a complex not-for-profit and / or healthcare organization is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Strong computer skills, with a high level of comfort working in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other CRM software programs.
  • Experience managing direct report(s).
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in leading integrated multi-channel direct response campaigns including a strong understanding of messaging, creative, testing methodologies, and data and segmentation strategies for mail, email and online channels.
  • Experience overseeing external fundraising agencies and vendors in the delivery of high volume, integrated fundraising campaigns in mail, email, and online channels (including paid digital media).
  • Data driven, with superior analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to synthesize data to drive insights and make recommendations for ongoing campaign and annual donor journey optimization.
  • Commitment to donor-centered fundraising principles, with a deep understanding of annual donor audience and methods by which donors can best be retained to increase their lifetime value.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to set priorities, and use sound judgement to troubleshoot and problem solve independently
  • Highly collaborative, with strong communication skills, excels at building relationships and working in cross-functional teams
