Full-Time Electronics Technician – Traffic Services
Job Description
- Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and computerized Traffic Control systems throughout Division 3.
- Assist in the installation, testing, and inspection of new Traffic Control systems and existing systems that are upgraded.
- Install traffic signal equipment and wiring detectors.
- Install and wire controllers.
- Trace out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble.
- Dismantle and reassemble components.
- Replace worn/faulty parts.
- Work without constant supervision and be evaluated by a supervisor for efficient use of time and proper operation of Traffic Control systems repaired and maintained.
- Maintain records of all signal work accomplished, keep an accurate record of time worked, and record all materials used on a computer.
- General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe/efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment in the electrical/electronic trades.
- Ability to diagnose equipment failure sources.
- Ability to repair/maintain complex electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and perform work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
- Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Ability to safely drive a motor vehicle and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) Endorsement (Don’t have one? Still apply. You can get it with 360 days of hire through our On-the-job Training program).
- Strength to lift up to 80 pounds or more shoulder high.
- Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet.
- Good ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and comply with all safety rules/policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to perform manual physical labor in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices.
- You can work outside in extreme cold and hot, and with exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
- Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callback.
- You will be part of an on-call rotation team responding to after-hours traffic signal related issues.
- A pre-employment drug test is required, and we will check with previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substances/alcohol abuse.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
