We are seeking a manager to join the Accounting Team at Denver International Airport (DEN). The position will primarily oversee the Accounts Payable process at DEN. As an Accounting Manager, you will interact with both internal and external customers, as well as other agencies throughout the City and County of Denver. Your work will support the DEN Accounting department as the Airport experiences substantial growth in the coming years. The ideal candidate appreciates the team dynamic with a collaborative style, is detail oriented, and is willing to jump in as a working manager to improve processes and procedures and to solve accounting issues. A functional knowledge of Accounts Payable is preferred, as well as background in a fast paced, complex organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the DEN Accounts Payable function, including working with the Supervisor and accountants on this team to process a high volume of supplier invoices, procurement card, and travel card transactions. The position supports the goods and services, contract invoicing, and procurement card processes at DEN
  • Communicate with and train DEN’s internal customers on the document requirements for invoice and PC processing. Develop and maintain procedural documents to support these efforts and perform periodic trainings to communicate emerging issues to DEN end users
  • Manage the Employee Expense reimbursement process and facilitate questions from employees on requirements for reimbursement
  • Manage Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) accounts payable requests
  • Communicate with and respond to DEN’s external customers with payment questions and account reconciliations
  • Work with the Director of Accounting and Senior Vice President of Accounting to ensure that all activities related to the accounting cycle are complete and accurate. This includes period close coordination, calculating estimates, and recording accruals, reconciling balance sheet accounts, posting adjusting entries, auditor communication, and communicating financial results to leadership
  • Collaborate with other departments at DEN, such as Budget and Fiscal Policy. This also includes interacting and meeting with City and County of Denver Controller’s Office personnel on accounting matters, period close, Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and other financial reporting requirements
  • Develop and communicate team goals to ensure all members of the team understand performance expectations and are aligned with continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Select, train, develop, and evaluate subordinate team members. Make decisions on hiring, termination, promotion, and disciplinary actions as required. Collaborate with the Director of Accounting on various accounting processes, procedures and issues as needed and perform other duties as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

We are looking for candidates for some or all the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum of five years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in Accounts Payable activities.
  • Experience using Excel, Power BI, and other data tools to simplify and maximize information reporting (pivot tables, filters, complex formulas, etc.)
  • Experience using Workday or another advanced ERP solution
  • Experience using invoice management system(s) to track and facilitate the procurement process.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, collaborative team management style, detail oriented, organized, and results driven
  • Experience with an airport is a plus

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of full performance, professional level experience overseeing and administering functional or operational aspects of fiscal business operations
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education
