EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Pay Range: $26.08 – $29.81 hourly

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Where the rubber hits the road – no metaphors here!
Street Infrastructure Crusader:
- Channel your inner-city construction sorcerer to forge sturdy roads, smooth slabs, and tidy trails.
- Perform mystical arts like excavation, foundation prep, and summoning streets from concrete and asphalt.
- Be the sewer sage: ensure seamless sanitary and storm sewer solutions, including inspection and magical manhole repairs.
Seasonal Savant:
- Winter: Engage in the epic winter warfare of plowing, salting, brining, and snow hauling. Create order from chaos!
- Fall: Lead the leafy cleanup crusade and banish yard waste from public spaces.
- Tame the wild stormwater ponds with heroic grass cutting, brush removal, and erosion control.
Mechanical Maven:
- Channel your inner gearhead to keep your fleet of metallic steeds always ready for battle
- Optimize equipment function by checking fluids, changing tires, and placing parts faster than you can say “routine maintenance.”
Safety Sentinel:
- Keep the shop, equipment, and grounds in top-notch, tidy condition – a place where oil spills fear to go.
- Master an arsenal of city gear, from tractor backhoes to leaf pickers. Use all safety practices like a veteran knight protecting the kingdom.
Record-Keeping Rockstar:
- Command the digital shores with your work orders and timesheets – process them with the precision of a Swiss clock.
- Document your heroic exploits with meticulous daily records.
Leading Luminary:
- Be the crew’s guiding star on job sites. Coordinate, direct, and elevate fellow Equipment Operators to hero status.
- Assist the mighty Public Works Street Supervisors with scheduling, evaluating, and enforcing the sacred Street Division Work Rules and Safety Protocols.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in road construction repair and maintenance, operating motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
- Valid Wisconsin CDL, Class B with no air brake restriction.
- Ability to obtain within one year a valid Wisconsin CDL, Class A with N endorsement and no air brake restriction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials for road construction.
- Extensive understanding of municipal equipment operation and maintenance.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collectively.
- Strong safety practices, accident prevention, and hazardous materials handling knowledge.
- Capacity for strenuous physical labor and the ability to work in inclement weather.
- Basic computer, mobile device, and clerical skills.
- Effective communication and team interaction skills.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to use hands to operate objects and tools. Frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 100 pounds). Vision capabilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.
Work Environment:
Regularly works outside in adverse weather conditions near moving mechanical equipment. Frequently exposed to wet, cold, humid conditions, and vibration. Occasionally exposed to elevated and confined places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, electrical shock, and noise exceeding 75dBA (hearing protection required above 85 dBA).
