Location: 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga and travel between Regional sites when required based on operational requirements

As the Fire and Life Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for the management of Fire and Life Safety programs and equipment for various Region of Peel facilities, ensuring the safety of building occupants and the protection of assets. In this role, you will also ensure programs meet the moral and legal compliance of the Ontario Fire Code.
What you will do in this role:
Schedule and monitor regular and on-going inspections, tests and maintenance with external contractors, facility management staff and building occupants.
Provide technical advice and guidance regarding applicable fire and life safety legislation, practice, policies, codes and standards.
Research and investigate specific fire and life safety equipment, systems and programs that meet all applicable codes, regulations, building and tenant needs; and to ensure ongoing proper functionality.
Plan and prioritize fire and life safety events (training, fire safety planning, fire drills, tests and inspections, verifications, commissioning etc.) ensuring they are completed in accordance with Ontario Fire and Building Code.
Develop specifications, scopes of work and terms of reference to tender documents for contracted maintenance services and capital projects.
Manage service contracts to ensure preventative maintenance routines are completed as per the scope and fully compliant with governing authorities in a timely manner to minimize operational impacts.
Coordinate the required checks, inspections and testing of all fire protection equipment and systems with contractors and oversee all related repairs to ensure work is completed properly and on budget.
Ensure Fire Department notices to rectify, notices of violation and inspection orders are dealt with correctly and within timelines provided.
Develop and implement training programs for building staff, occupants and contractors to ensure procedures are correctly followed as per the Ontario Fire and Building Codes.
Respond to all fire emergencies in an expeditious and efficient manner to minimize damage, loss or injury by working in collaboration with Facility Management, insurance companies, Fire Departments, and Fire Marshall.
Ensure Ontario Fire Code compliant fire safety plans are developed for Regional facilities.
Maintains and updates fire safety plans and applicable documentation for all fire and life safety systems.
Work closely with FLS Specialist to ensure that coverage is provided for the entire portfolio and knowledge, information and processes are fully coordinated for all sites within the commercial portfolio.
What the role requires:
Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology with at least 7 years of fire and life safety equipment and systems job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to: Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, CAN/ULC Standards, NFPA Standards, CSA Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employee Standards Act, Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
Knowledge of Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Systems.
Proven experience to manage vendors/contractors effectively.
Canadian Fire Alarm Association certifed.
A criminal background check is required as condition of employment.
Valid ‘G’ driver’s licence is required.
Skills/Abilities:
Strong organization skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency with MS Office as well as database management.
Sound decision-making capabilities including sound judgment and critical thinking to arrive at recommendations.
Time management abilities to multi task and adjust to shifting priorities.
Demonstrated tact and diplomacy and ability to deal with a variety of people at all levels.
Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written; proven ability to present to various audiences both internal and external to Peel.

Experience with AutoCAD is an asset.

Work Mode & Job Location:
In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga and throughout Regional worksites. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
