EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Salary: $70,000-$80,000; commensurate with experience
Location: Savannah, GA (potential project-based travel needed)

Re:Purpose Savannah is a women+ led 501(c)3 nonprofit establishing a sustainable future through the deconstruction, salvage, and reuse of historic buildings.

Since its inception in 2018, Re:Purpose Savannah has grown from a pilot project into a national leader in the movement toward deconstruction, reuse, and circular economy in the built environment. ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direction of the board of directors, the executive director has the responsibility to identify and pursue funding; cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with customers, donors, sponsors, the construction and deconstruction industry, community partners, and government entities; manage staff, programming, and day-to-day operations. The executive director seeks to increase community support and organizational capacity to ensure the organization’s long-term viability and effectiveness.

This position requires a strong commitment to advocating for women, including women-identified, trans, non-binary, and other underrepresented individuals in the construction industry.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Responsibilities:

Leadership: Collaborate with the board of directors and staff to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan. Act as an inspiring and motivating force within the organization. Communicate with the staff and board regularly in a clear and transparent manner. Make informed decisions on critical matters. Adapt to changing circumstances and challenges. Demonstrate an ability to delegate.

Advocate: Be the face of the organization in the public sphere. Attend events, speaking engagements, conferences, networking opportunities, and etc. to promote deconstruction, salvage, and reuse in alignment with the organization’s mission and to enhance awareness of the organization on a local, regional, national, and international level and cultivate positive partnerships, relationships, and collaborations.

Fundraising: Collaborate with the board and staff to explore, set, and implement strategic fundraising plans to secure financial commitments from individuals, businesses, foundations, granting entities, and corporations. Create a strong donor relations process that includes, but is not limited to, recognition, record keeping, and overall relationship management.

Financial Management: Ensure sound financial management and responsible stewardship of the organization’s funds by meeting frequently with the board treasurer; working with the board grants chair to guarantee proper use/management of grant funds and campaign funds earmarked for specific purposes; collaborating with the staff and board to create and implement an annual budget; meeting with staff regularly to verify budget goals are on track and make adjustments if not; working with Accountant and CPA to maintain accurate accounting and timely payment of all applicable local, state, and federal taxes and fees; maintaining accurate and timely records for all accounts payable and receivable; maintaining and/or obtaining all licenses, insurance policies, agreements, and contracts required to keep the organization operational and in compliance.

Board Relations: Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the board of directors by working together to set and implement organizational goals, priorities, and strategies; participating in board meetings, committee sessions, and other meetings as needed; addressing administrative matters with the executive board; maintaining transparent, open, and forthright communication including regular reporting and updates on organizational needs, challenges and achievements.

Supervision: Effectively supervise staff at Re:Purpose Savannah, enforcing established policies and procedures. This includes providing reasonable accommodations to ensure an inclusive work environment. Recruit and maintain highly qualified staff members. Provide staff with open, clear, and effective communication. Provide regular employee performance evaluations and support to align their achievements with organizational goals. Maintain a regular staff training schedule in line with staff and organizational needs and capacity. Oversee the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation record keeping, and continuous improvement of all programs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and knowledge of historic preservation and construction fields, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in successful fundraising, grant writing, development, or management, at least five (5) years of experience in at least one of the following fields: nonprofits, sales, construction, historic preservation, sustainability, or small business, with a minimum of three (3) years in management roles with direct supervision of at least eight (8) people

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities:

  • Strong background in operations management, strategic planning, and process improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate the organization’s mission to a wide range of audiences in a variety of ways
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required; when working off-site, the ability to maintain productivity and communications to meet deadlines and goals is required
  • The ability to foster a healthy organizational culture, to encourage teamwork and collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate
  • Effective at conflict management
  • Proven ability to use technology and communications best practices; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Quickbooks required; familiarity with other software, systems, and database management
  • Understanding or willingness to learn about construction in regards to estimating, bid analysis, contract management, and related topics.
