UKCEH is looking for a Project Finance Support Officer to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive and progressive team of around 20 people, working from all four of our sites.  The team are expertly led to utilise Microsoft Teams, ensuring our values of Excellence, Integrity and Teamwork are embedded in everything they do.  A very inclusive team, with an open and collaborative way of working together for the benefit of everyone.

 

We need your numeracy and excellent communication skills to support our environmental scientists to manage finances across multiple projects, typically the contract value of these projects can range from £1k to £1.9m, the projects are varied, scientifically impactful and interesting, their focus could be within the UK or international and sometimes both!

 

Essential skills include being able to build good working relationships across various teams, regardless of location, as well as being able to work with accuracy and attention to detail.  Full training will be given on all our systems.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting project managers in the set-up, review, reporting and closure of their projects in Workday (full training will be given)
  • Assisting project accountants in the processing of workflow approvals and regular review of project budgets
  • Undertaking regular project budget reviews, making revisions as necessary
  • Generating invoicing schedules
  • Producing expenditure statements to support customer invoicing
  • Providing guidance and training to project managers in the appropriate use of systems, reports, and budgeting tools
  • Resolving ad hoc financial processing and reporting queries

 

For the role of Project Finance Support Officer, we’re looking for somebody who has:

 

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above/Grade 4-9, must include Maths and English
  • IT literate, Microsoft Office with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively translate financial information and concepts to non-financial budget holders, building good working relationships across the organisation
  • The ability to plan, organise, and prioritise work effectively, demonstrating good time management skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent numeracy skills, with an understanding of budgetary control principles
  • Solution focused and able to contribute well to problem-solving

 

 

Desirable skills:

  • Demonstrable knowledge/experience of using finance systems
  • Accountancy background
  • Experience of using Workday system
  • Experience of managing content on SharePoint
  • Previous experience working within academic, scientific or research environments
