Full-Time Associate Director, Community Safety Initiatives

Job Description

Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (“Everytown for Gun Safety”) is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country. Everytown for Gun Safety’s Community Safety Initiatives (CSI) team focuses on scaling promising community-based violence intervention (CVI) strategies via direct investment, capacity building and advocacy. We are seeking an Associate DirectorCommunity Safety Initiatives.

Everytown CSI leads Everytown’s Community Safety Fund, which has supported 119 community-based violence intervention organizations in 68 cities since 2019; the Everytown Community Training Institute, which delivers capacity-building training to our grantees, elected officials and governmental agencies in partnership with national subject matter experts; and informs Everytown’s legislative advocacy at all levels of government while leading direct engagement with community-based organizations, empowered stakeholders and influencers to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence in cities nationwide.

The Associate Director will be a critical member of the CSI team and will own the development and administration of our grant offerings, ensure the identification and selection of prospective grantees, shepherd the execution and monitoring of grantee, vendor and partner agreements, facilitate the co-design and delivery of in-person and remote grantee-centric capacity building offerings, convenings, direct communications with current, prospective and alumni grantees, ensure grantee compliance with reporting and data requirements and liaise with internal departments, partners, advisory board members and subject matter experts to ensure alignment and collaboration on CSI priorities.

Associate DirectorCommunity Safety Initiatives reports to the Managing Director of Community Safety Initiatives. The Associate Director will oversee two program managers who support grant administration and programming, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth operations and high-quality outcomes.The Associate Director will support the Managing Director by analyzing grantee reports and engagement as well as relevant city data to develop insights, powerpoint presentations and talking points in support of internal and external presentations. The Associate Director will also ensure coordination of in-person and hybrid meetings for the Managing Director with grantees and partners to ensure awareness in advance of decision points.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Managing two program managers who support grant administration and programming, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth operations and high-quality outcomes.
  • Providing oversight for the development and administration of all grant offerings, including execution of our annual grant selection process and the development and delivery of relevant work products such as surveys, applications, grant reporting tools, and fact sheets.
  • Identifying prospective grantees through direct engagement with volunteers, advisory board members, partners and prospective grantees.
  • Leading the execution and monitoring of grantee, vendor, and partner agreements, in furtherance of grant delivery, programming and capacity building.
  • Facilitating the co-design and delivery of in-person and remote capacity-building offerings and convenings for grantees, fostering a supportive community for grantees to enhance their collective impact and power.
  • Directing communications with current, prospective, alumni grantees, advisory board members and external stakeholders to ensure awareness, strong relationships and gather feedback to improve program effectiveness.
  • Ensuring grantee compliance with reporting and data requirements, maintaining accurate records, and analyzing impact metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Liaising with internal departments, partners, advisory board members, and subject matter experts to ensure alignment and collaboration on CSI priorities, fostering a cohesive approach to achieving our mission.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree preferred
  • 7+ years of work experience in community safety, public safety or advocacy, with demonstrated experience leading or supporting a grant program
  • 2+ years of management/leadership experience
  • Prior experience in the CVI field is preferred.
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff
  • Demonstrated experience producing data-informed written products and presentations for non-technical audiences using clear, accessible language.
  • Experience editing and proofreading with quick turnaround times
  • Track record of facilitating partnerships, meetings, convenings and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, community-based violence intervention programs and survivors of trauma is a plus.
  • A commitment to social justice.
  • Passion for coaching and developing junior team members, and fostering a positive culture as a manager
  • Strong critical thinking skills and business judgment, with the ability to develop problem-solving strategies and adapt those strategies as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Ability to perform in a fast-moving environment and to deliver timely and high-quality work.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of humor, flexibility, creativity, and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a sometimes-hectic, open-plan office at least 3 days per week.
