Full-Time Director of Engineering – Total Rewards

Job Description

Newfront’s Total Rewards program works with clients to curate competitive benefit packages that attract, retain and reward top talent. This engineering team empowers Newfront’s Total Rewards business sector. Its mission is to build a world class platform to enable HR leaders and employees to onboard, manage, understand and use their insurance and benefits package. It is a high-impact org and owns multiple domains such as:
*Employee benefits data platform
*HR leader admin portal
*Employee applications
*Admin ecosystem to empower internal total rewards professional to service and marketing insurance
*Emerging AI / LLM powered applications to supercharge both clients and admin to automate insurance operations and usage.
What you will be doing:
  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for Total Rewards, leading initiatives from concept to launch with focus, transparency, and accountability.
  • Scale existing products and initiate the development of new products, aligning with business goals and enhancing user satisfaction.
  • Leverage expertise in large-scale production systems to plan comprehensively, identify risks, and ensure successful project launches.
  • Enhance team collaboration by improving communication across engineering, product, and business leadership.
  • Hire and develop talented engineers, building a high-performance Total Rewards team.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and technical excellence, encouraging experimentation and new opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to boost efficiency and quality.
  • Proactively identify and resolve systemic issues, ensuring the stability and success of engineering operations.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering management, with a proven track record of leading and scaling teams in a high-growth environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects iteratively in a dynamic and agile setting, managing multiple projects and dependencies effectively.
  • Strong capability to operate autonomously in ambiguous situations, providing strategic direction and influencing outcomes with minimal guidance.
  • Experienced in crafting roadmaps, release plans, and detailed project plans, with a deep understanding of dependency management and agile methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of addressing technical issues with engineers and strategizing with C-level executives.
  • Proven skills in influencing, negotiating, and inspiring in a matrixed environment, coupled with excellent organizational and planning abilities.
  • Solid business acumen, able to translate business objectives into technical strategies, backed by a strong analytical mindset focused on data-driven decision-making.
  • Experience fostering collaboration and building strong relationships across diverse teams, including sales, marketing, and other cross-functional groups.

The pay range for this position in California, Washington, Colorado and New York at commencement of employment is expected to be between $234,400 and $293,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
