Internship Intern Architectural Historian
Job Description
Richard Grubb & Associates, Inc. (RGA) is seeking a part-time or full-time Intern Architectural Historian to join our dynamic, growing team this summer. This position can be based out of our Cranbury, New Jersey or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office. This position can be based remotely, though applicants must be within commuting distance to project sites in the NJ/PA area for site visits, research, and fieldwork duties. Preference will be given to candidates pursuing a master’s degree in Historic Preservation, History, Architectural History, or a closely related field.
This position offers the candidate excellent opportunities for professional development with practical, hands-on experience and mentoring.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct site visits to survey historic resources through field notes, digital photography, and mobile applications.
- Develop detailed physical descriptions of a variety of resources, including buildings, structures, objects, landscapes, etc.
- Conduct primary and secondary source historical research and synthesize research into architecturally relevant background histories.
Qualifications & Abilities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Microsoft Access, ArcGIS, and other GIS-based software would be advantageous.
- Self-starter attitude with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective multi-tasking abilities.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to traverse up to five miles per day for fieldwork.
- Ability to occasionally commute to RGA’s Cranbury, NJ office.

This temporary position has flexible start and finish dates and can range from 2 to 5 days a week for the duration of the summer, with the potential to extend beyond depending on workload. The hourly pay rate for this intern position is $22.00 an hour.
