SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is Annual Renewable with the possibility of converting to Tenure Track
Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), located 15 miles northeast of Seattle, is the only public institute of technology in Washington state and has provided high quality education since 1949. We offer 10 applied bachelor’s degrees, 40 associate degrees and 80 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Develop and teach a wide variety of courses in medical assisting, specializing in Phlebotomy and clinical skills. This position functions as the faculty program chair for the medical assisting program and is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, review, planning, and development. Other duties include CAAHEP and regional accreditation reporting, advising and the support of students, and coordination with medical community. This position reports to the dean of allied health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Responsible for the organization, administration , continuous assessment, planning, development, and effectiveness of the medical assisting program and program materials
• Plan and develop a variety of instructional objectives and experiences appropriate to the medical assisting program goals including appropriate general education requirements for degrees and certificates
• Demonstrate an understanding of accreditation and MAERB standards
• Create ongoing assessment tools to maintain MAERB standards for accreditation
• Facilitate externship experiences as needed
• Participate in college initiatives
• Teach a variety of medical assisting courses
• Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet a wide variety of learning needs and styles
• Develop and teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college
• Model the communication, computation, and human relations skills required for employment in medical assisting
• Develop classroom and lab procedures, including safety, consistent with identified local, state, and federal policies and procedures
• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college grading requirements
• Follow disciplinary procedures, as prescribed in college policy, and deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Participate in professional development activities and staff development in the assigned instructional area and technical field
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of their area and relate specific applications to industry
• Develop and maintain industry and community support for medical assisting programs by convening advisory committee meetings and maintaining contact with industry for externship placement and follow-up activities
• Maintain regular office hours
• Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality; other duties as assigned
• Develop and assess program curriculum, and educational outcomes
• Perform advising, recruiting and retention activities
• Take part in college accreditation, program review, and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
• Perform other professional activities as approved by the dean
QUALIFICATIONS
• Associates Degree
• Current Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant
• Ability to demonstrate a minimum of two years experience in healthcare and 40 hours performing observing MA duties in an ambulatory care setting
• Familiarity with managed care, capitation, and various insurance billing methods
• Valid First Aid, CPR, and Blood-borne Pathogens Certificate
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
• Recent teaching experience in post-secondary and /or vocational/technical education, including traditional classroom, individualized lab instruction, and collaborative group activities
• Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member
• Experience in writing program curriculum
• Evidence of recent professional development activity
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule This position is for the 2024-2025 Academic year and begins September 2024. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $74,028-$87,146 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position with the possibility of converting to tenure track.
