Full-Time Senior Director, IT
Job Description
Directly reporting to the Managing Director, Operations and Data, the Senior Director, Technology is responsible for management of the teams overseeing IT administration and operations, data tool and system management, technology product and project management, and cybersecurity, as well as serving as a strategic thought leader for the organization on technological strategy, risk and governance. The Senior Director, Technology will work to unify the various technology functions across the organization while keeping up to date with the industry best practices and emerging technologies.
Responsibilities include:
IT, Tech Product and Data Tool Management and Leadership
- Oversee teams managing day-to-day operations of the following:
- IT Team. Information technology function, including directing existing IT support staff who support helpdesk function, system administration, staff onboarding and offboarding, access control, device procurement, hardware inventory and management, and new office build out
- Data Department. Data tools and systems management function, including two teams, a data management team and data engineering & analytics, that manage and support the day to day operation, engineering and integration of data tools and systems, and analytics
- Product and Project Management Team. Product and project management function, including product inventory, discovery and contract negotiations for technology-based systems/services, and implementation of new technology
- Evaluate overall operations of information technology, product management, and data tools and systems and recommend enhancements, including enhancing, developing and establishing documented operating policies and procedures
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to assess and recommend technologies that support organizational need, and provide technological guidance within the organization
- Manage a broad set of third-party relationships with data management and technology vendors and integrations with those vendors’ tools supporting the organization’s initiatives.
- Establish and maintain credibility among senior management regarding technology initiatives, strategies, and long-term planning, and advise senior management on strategic systems conversions and integrations in support of organizational goals and objectives
- Participate as a member of the senior leadership team in establishing processes of direction and control to ensure risks are managed appropriately and the organization’s resources are used responsibly
- Foster an environment of collaboration, personal investment, accountability and knowledge sharing with respect to data and technology across all other departments
- Oversee ongoing improvements and the feasibility of system enhancements
- Propose and manage budgets for technology-related projects
Cybersecurity
- Serve as a central point of contact for cybersecurity decision making, oversight and communications for the organization
- Manage external CISO/MSSP service, ensuring that:
- Information security risk is effectively managed and communicated throughout the organization
- Organization-wide information security plan, recovery and business continuity plan, and incident response plans and runbooks are maintained
- Stay up to date on threat intelligence and cyber warfare techniques as it relates to defending an advocacy political organization from nation-state actors
- Manage overall system and application inventory and ensure proper controls are in place for security, monitoring, and privacy compliance
- Develop and lead the litigation hold process in partnership with the General Counsel
Qualifications
- 10+ years of management experience in the technology arena, with a focus on technology operations
- Significant experience in leading and developing a team, including a minimum of 5 years of management experience
- Experience working with nonprofit, advocacy or political organizations is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate expectations, inspire and motivate all levels of staff
- Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and proactively
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a diverse team
