Full-Time Communications and Development Manager
Job Description
The Communications and Development Manager will serve as the Alliance Health Project’s manager for all external communications, marketing, and fundraising. This person will direct all communications including print, digital, and multimedia platforms; they will manage fundraising event production, including promotion and execution of event; campaign creation and promotion; field all media and public relations inquiries; and oversees all multimedia and marketing projects. Using advanced marketing, fundraising, and communication concepts to manage and implement comprehensive promotional marketing and fundraising strategies, including short and long-range strategic and marketing plans. The Communications and Development Manager will lead the team in the development of strategies to build and foster the organization’s brand – that aligns with UCSF brand standards – and position within the LGBTQ+ and UCSF communities. This position works independently to manage, analyze, and maintain all marketing, communications, and fundraising events and campaigns. The role will create and develop new philanthropic, organizational and development campaigns, contacts, and strategic plans.

Department Description
The Alliance Health Project (AHP) provides a wide range of mental health services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, as well as members of the LGBTQ community living with serious mental health challenges. AHP also provides publications and trainings for health care professionals and volunteers. Since AHP’s founding in 1984, AHP has served thousands of clients, counselors and clinicians, justifying its reputation as one of the leading HIV and LGBTQ mental health agencies in San Francisco — a reputation achieved by anticipating and addressing the challenges of the communities AHP serves.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and minimum five years’ experience or equivalent combination of experience / training.
- Experience managing donors, volunteers, board members and staff.
- Experience with development, including donor retention and stewardship, fundraising events and campaigns, annual giving, event planning, and development-related communications.
- Experience budgeting, planning, and maintaining fundraising costs and revenue generation.
- Experience creating annual fundraising plan for department.
- Advanced experience designing, developing, fundraising for, and executing an annual gala/auction.
- Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques, and applications relevant to the field of promotion, media, event management and fundraising strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable campus and / or medical center policies and state and federal laws pertaining to marketing and advertising issues and concerns and other related policies or laws.
- Advanced knowledge of web based and digital communications and social media platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of Project management tools and principles.
- Advanced skills in developing, designing, and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies including digital, multimedia and print campaigns.
- Advanced written, visual, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
- Advanced analytical and research skills.
- As a part of our fundraising campaigns, this position requires the occasional installation of art which involves lifting and transporting art, the occasional climbing of ladders, and handling of power tools.
- Must have CA Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experienced event planner
- Experience with auctions and auction software
- Diplomacy, Diversity, Equity, and Belonging Experience.
- Knowledge and experience in HIV, LGBTQ and/or BIPOC communities.
- Excellent Time and resource management acumen.
- Ability to be flexible, creative, and adapt to changing schedules, circumstances, and activities.
- Ability to work on complex and various project simultaneously.
