Full-Time Building Systems Inspector- Plumbing
Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
State and Local Code Enforcement: Independently perform complex on-site inspections of building, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems in the City of Oshkosh to verify compliance with adopted codes and regulations. Provide guidance, education, and consultative direction to secure code compliance. Receive and respond to complaints regarding building, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems and municipal code violations. Secure compliance through the issuance of violation/correction notices, abatement and raze requests, letters, citations, legal testimony, and correspondence as required during the inspection and code enforcement process. Perform research on product materials or other research as related and required as part of the inspection process. Provide excellent customer service and communication skills when explaining code requirements and code interpretations to architects, engineers, contractors, and citizens.
Plan Reviews & Permit Issuance: Examine and review plans for building construction, alterations, and mechanical systems to determine compliance with local and state codes and regulations. Issue permits and answer questions pertaining to building codes and construction methods during the permit issuance and plan review process.
Project Management: Coordinate with office staff and other departments to make sure inspections are requested and projects are advancing as planned. Issue Certificates of Occupancy when projects are complete and inspections are approved to close out projects. Work with various departments and divisions (especially, Public Works, Assessors, Planning and Fire) in a cooperative effort to gain compliance with municipal codes. Attend meetings as required.
Training & Development: Provide mentorship, training, and direction to other inspection staff. Provide training, consultations, and outreach to contractors and other stakeholders. Prepare various educational materials including brochures and promotional materials.
How to Apply
Minimum Qualifications:- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- State Certification in UDC Building, UDC HVAC, UDC Electric, UDC Plumbing
- One or more of the following State of WI certifications:
- Commercial Plumbing Certification or State of Wisconsin Licensed Master Plumber
- Minimum of three (3) years of building construction or inspection experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
