Full-Time Billing Specialist

Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is in search of two Billing Specialists to fill full-time non-exempt positions in its St. Louis office. This position will play a crucial role in preparing and processing client billing for attorneys. You will succeed in this position if you have excellent attention to detail, communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes Aderant Expert, PreBill Manager, or similar software to process client bills.
  • Ensures that bills and the billing process adhere to Firm guidelines, quality standards, deadlines, and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with supervisor, clients, e-billing vendors, attorneys, and assistants on all billing-related issues.
  • Researches and responds to billing-related issues timely and effectively.
  • Documents, updates and communicates procedures, known issues, or workarounds to users.
  • Prepares special documents and reports requested by management, clients, or attorneys.
  • Works with the Billing Supervisor and the Billing and Collections Manager in identifying billing trends and proactively seeks ways to improve current processes and maximize efficiency within the group.
  • Enhances and maintains a repository of documentation, including the status of work, to enable other personnel to function effectively during absences or workload changes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in professional services billing or related area, or an Associate degree in Business Administration or related field.

 

Job Requirements

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of billing rates, alternative fee arrangements, bill groups, and related billing topics and systems such as Expert Image or similar electronic document storage software.
  • Must display excellent customer service.
  • Must possess strong collaboration skills to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence.  Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects, and strong time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered and raise questions or concerns.
  • Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above-average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for him or her to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the work day, having the ability to transport twenty-five (25) pounds, and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
