Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty in Criminal Justice
Job Description
Elmira College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice to start Fall 2024. Elmira College is a small, private, comprehensive college in the Finger Lakes region of Western New York. Founded in 1855, it was the first American women’s college to provide a curriculum similar to men’s colleges. The city of Elmira also is the home of the first prison in the world built on the principle of rehabilitation, and Mark Twain regularly read his work to inmates there. Average class sizes run from 10-20 students, and our unique May term provides an opportunity for faculty to develop special immersive or travel classes.
The position is for a teaching generalist who can teach in most areas of the criminal justice field. Courses may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Policing, Probation and Parole, Penology, and Juvenile Justice. Electives may be developed according to interests, including interdisciplinary courses. The position is teaching intensive, and while teaching excellence is primary, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in faculty committee work, advising, research, and in the college community.
Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree (PhD) or ABD status with conferral date no later than May 30, 2025;
- Preferred prior undergraduate teaching and/or related work experience
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
