This role is responsible for providing and executing a comprehensive maintenance program for DENs multi-facility property including Jeppesen Terminal, 3 Concourses including 139 gates, lighting on 6 runways including over 24,200 light fixtures and 72,000 SF Central Utility Plant including 6 boilers and 7 chillers. As the Senior Director of Maintenance, you will lead and direct multiple functional areas within the Airport Maintenance Division at the Denver International Airport, and report to the Senior Vice President for Airport Maintenance. The functional areas include: Facility Maintenance, Life Safety, Analytics, Contract Management, Maintenance Training Unit, and the Maintenance Control Center. In this position, you will be responsible for the oversight of the performance of these sections as related to the goals and objectives of the airport’s strategic plan, managing the budget and expenses, developing, and implementing projects and programs that will improve their performance, and serving as a liaison to the airport stakeholders.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, all in office at Denver International Airport.

 

Starting Pay: $155,000-175,000/year, based on experience and education
Responsibilities will include:

  • Leads the performance of the sections as related to the airport’s Strategic Plan, and the associated airport and division level key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop and implement strategies for optimizing the sections’ performance with the goal of meeting or exceeding the established KPI performance benchmarks
  • Leads, coaches, mentors, and challenges staff. Champions organizational change and continuous improvement. Actively engages staff to get support and commitment while providing motivation and encouragement to meet goals and objectives. Leads staff development initiatives that include training, development, and succession planning. Establishes performance expectations and standards for all levels of employees to achieve or exceed performance metrics and prepare them for the future
  • Develops and administers maintenance contracts to augment in-house capabilities. Collaborates with Project Managers on Project-Definition, Design-Intent, Estimating, Scheduling, etc.
  • Prepares and presents fiscal analysis and budget preparation/recommendations for Capital and Operations/Maintenance (O&M) budgets. Ensures efficient funds management by using fiscally sound practices; Research financial impacts and consequences of proposed recommendations and provides business-case justifications to other stakeholders. Develops and incorporates innovations or changes to create cost savings
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by facilitating employee engagement and innovation through the identification and resolution of process improvement opportunities. Develops and implements standards, policies, procedures, systems and guidelines for the organization and subordinate managers, supervisors, and staff. Develops and manages workforce management programs that address position management, work classification, labor productivity and succession planning
  • Champions programs for environmental stewardship, sustainability, and hazardous materials management. Utilizes Operational Risk Management (ORM) strategies to develop emergency preparedness response plans and continuity of operations programs
  • Explains and defends the organization’s decisions, actions, and recommendations to internal and external customers. Provides subject matter expertise and advice in all areas of facility management to include giving presentations at professional or public meetings
  • Leads the sections with a focus on the delivery of superior customer service and ensures that staff is sufficiently knowledgeable and trained regarding technical aspects of the job, supervisory and leadership skill sets
  • Manages issues that arise regarding airport operations during both regular business hours, and off hours and weekend periods. Resolves operational and management issues, makes decisions that include multiple perspectives and solve underlying problems. Contributes to the development and implementation of sections’ work plans based on the annual and strategic plans
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, and challenges. Demonstrates personal accountability and responsibility and holds staff to same standards

 

We are looking for candidates with some or all the following experience:

  • 5-7 years of Facility Maintenance experience at a Director/ Manager level maintaining a large-scale public facing facility
  • Experience managing in house trades staff; Experience managing in a 24/7/365 operational environment
  • Understanding of complex Electrical and Mechanical Systems related to the Aviation industry
  • Excellent strategic leadership skills; Experience in leading a highly technical team performing specialized maintenance on equipment such as a Central Utility Plant, Facility Life Safety Systems, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems
  • Experience in development and oversight of training programs; In-depth knowledge of managing large organizational teams and implementing industry-best practices
  • A data/metrics-driven approach to analyze departmental trends and performance outcomes; Ability to use data to drive strategic decision making; Ability to develop programs and build business cases using sound logic to support your argument to fund and implement those programs; Ability to influence and negotiate positive outcomes for the organization
  • Experience with workforce planning, strategic planning, and organizational development initiatives
  • The ability to effectively manage ambiguity as well as emergency situations, and to make critical decisions with confidence
  • Experience working with Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • FMP or CFM certifications, a plus

  • Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Management, Aviation Management or a related field
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of management level work experience in a complex corporation or airport or a related industry. Two years of management experience must include budget and fiscal oversight, evaluation of business processes, policy development and implementation, and decision-making experience with planning and organizing multiple projects, operations or functions
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
