SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
***This position will teach in Winter Quarter 2024, Mondays 6:30-8:50 pm, and Wednesdays 6:30-7:40 pm. The first day of the quarter is January 8th. The final day of the quarter is March 20.***
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 10 applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees, and 80 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech is located within the city of Kirkland, which is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo. The college is seeking a qualified adjunct professor of psychology. The following is the course outline to which they will teach.
PSYC&200, Lifespan Psychology – 5 credits
Students will learn the stages of human development from infancy throughout the life span. Stages will be discussed in terms of physical, social and psychological. Normal growth and development are discussed for each developmental stage. Also addressed are deviations from normal as behaviors which interfere with function. Practical applications are made.
Prerequisites: ABED 046 (or placement into ENGL 093 or higher) and ABED 040 (or placement into MATH 087 or higher)
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
• Discuss the general concepts of human development and behavior
• Understand basic psychological terminology, concepts, and theories
• Describe how biological, psychological, and social factors affect behavior
• Explain the developmental theories of Erickson, Piaget, Kohlberg, and others
• Describe the physical, mental, emotional, and social developmental characteristics at each developmental stage throughout the life span
• Describe possible blocks to normal growth and development at all stages
• Define the critical periods in development
• Explain the impact on the individual and the family when individuals have not developed along expected patterns
• Describe the stages of death and dying as defined by Kubler-Ross
• Explain the impact on the individual and the family when individuals have not developed along expected patterns

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Teach to the learning outcomes of the approved curriculum
• Teach in a learning community environment and collaborate with other faculty members, both in-person and remotely
• Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals
• Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction, and self-directed learning
• Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
• Develop and teach lessons which foster and support equitable student learning and cultural diversity
• Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
• Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures
• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
• Post the class syllabus and students’ grades via the online course system (Canvas)
• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
QUALIFICATIONS
• Masters degree in psychology or a closely related field
• 2 years teaching experience required; college teaching experience preferred
• Previous experience with an online course system (Canvas preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
CompensationPlacement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.Step A ranges from $735.47 – $2,026.41Step B ranges from $774.00 – $2,322.00Step C ranges from $789.87 – $2,369.58Step D ranges from $844.26 – $2,532.78Step E ranges from $865.79 – $2,712.96BenefitsOnce part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
