Job Description
Director Role: International nonprofit Oceanic Global is looking to bring on a Director to oversee, lead, and grow the Blue Standard program, core offerings, team, key partners, and clientele. The ideal candidate is a leader in the sustainability and hospitality and/or CPG spaces that is passionate about working with businesses to provide scalable solutions for the health of our ocean and our blue planet. The Blue Director will spearhead overall program strategy, business development strategy and implementation and manage the Blue team, including overseeing new business, client and partner relations, project management, technical expertise, and data analytics among other initiatives.

Position, Duties & Opportunities:
- Business Development & Partnerships
- Identify and lead the execution on strategic business development opportunities for the expansion of Blue globally through portfolio exploration, partnership integrations, diversifying stakeholder networks and more.
- Provide thought leadership and customized value incentives across industries positioning Blue as a business solution and valuable opportunity.
- Continue expansion and engagement of the Blue Advisory Board network and maintain relationships with advisors
- Work with synergistic sustainability standards and platforms to integrate and formalize partnerships with Blue.
- Develop and maintain strategic and community partnerships (brands, vendors, institutions, coalition-building efforts), and act as point of contact to develop partnership opportunities and oversee deliverables.
- Act as a forward-facing representative of Blue to underscore and amplify visibility for the program’s thought leadership through participation in speaking engagements, press opportunities, and events.
- Represent Oceanic Global and Blue on relevant coalitions for the public, private and civil society sectors and support policy work.
- Lead Blue business and market transformation by generating interest in Blue programs including Blue Grants that provide funding for additional Blue Verification

- Strategy
- Develop and refine strategies, processes, and program value propositions that help streamline and optimize program growth and development.
- Includes new business development, partnerships and sales strategy, growth and relationship management strategy for global consulting network
- Identify and execute on new business development and partnerships strategy for the Blue Program
- Establish a growth and relationship management strategy for our global consultant network and ecosystem of partners
- Build and refine the strategy and positioning of the Blue Grants program
- Develop and refine strategies, processes, and program value propositions that help streamline and optimize program growth and development.
- Establish and execute on ongoing community building strategies
- Evolve the Blue product suite to deliver the most value to the Blue community. Not limited to Educational resources, business resources, consulting resources.
- Identify and integrate tools for the best metrics to use to measure the success of the program and oversee reporting on program impact.
- Work across teams to ensure Blue is integrated in all OG programmatic areas and lead on Blue related partnership scopes.
- Work with the Marketing Director to ensure Blue is effectively marketed to key stakeholders and the public throughout OG’s marketing and communication channels
- Support OG’s JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) goals and development.
- Program Development & Management
- Provide technical expertise & leadership related to single-use plastics & their alternatives, material science, waste management or other relevant topics to the Blue Standard team and clients across both consulting scopes and program thought leadership / innovation.
- Develop and manage program roadmap and KPIs including program expansion, impact, and team development.
- Work with the leadership team to evolve the program to increase visibility, impact metrics and optimize revenue models.
- Work with the leadership team to evolve the program to address new industry sectors Review/Enhance/Expand on existing criteria, specifically Blue Actions.
- Oversee management of the Blue Database (including project scopes, Blue businesses, consultants, vendors, Blue Grant projects and strategic partners).
- Refine engagement and process with Blue team community and oversee management related to Blue Consultant network, Blue List, Blue businesses going through verification or reverification.
- Oversee the Blue Managerand future Blue team members, provide mentorship and work with OG leadership to meet programmatic goals.
- Maintain Blue Program management, budgets, and financial projections with the leadership team.
- Identify and oversee Blue implementation with strategic businesses/ corporate partnerships or grants that OG consultants on in-house.
- Lead/participate in region-wide projects not limited to working with institutional partners, governments and Island Economies.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Green Chemistry, Material Science, Business and/or other related fields.
- 7-10 years experience in the sustainability field: sustainability standards, ESG strategy development, hospitality, ocean conservation, business development, corporate sustainability, etc.
- 3+ years in people management and department growth.
- Proven technical expertise and proficiency in the realm of plastics & their alternatives, as well as material science or green chemistry fields and other sustainability topics that are relevant to the Blue Standard.
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal & interpersonal communications, as well as, copywriting and presentation skills. Ability to communicate sustainability & technical expertise smoothly and effectively.
- Ability to lead, multitask and manage many projects at once, while having the foresight to anticipate program needs into the future.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good sense of humor.
- Attention to detail.
- Experience or willingness to learn Google Suite (Google Doc, Google Sheets, Google Drive), AI integrations, Slack, and Zoom meeting management.
- Self-motivated and comfortable leading a small but dynamic team.
- Resourceful, efficient, a good problem solver, organized, and the ability to work independently and remotely.
- Willingness to travel when necessary.
- Willingness to work with a global clientbase.
- Global mindset, genuine desire to create positive impact and inspire others to protect our ocean and our planet.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Understanding of hospitality industry operational requirements.
- LEED AP, WELL AP, and/or other professional sustainability accreditation.
Time, Location and Salary
- Full-time salaried position – 40 hours per week
- The PTO package includes 21 days paid time off plus 11 public holidays
- Healthcare stipend
- Location: Remote. Ideally New York but not limited to. Would need to work EST or GMT hours.
- Salary $75,000-$100,000, depending on location and experience
