Department Summary:

At Bridgewater State University’s Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics, students and faculty explore an enormous breadth of topics and questions, from life on the planet to the laws of physics. We are pleased to invite applications for the position of Dean of the College. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the college, which consists of the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Computer Science, Geography, Geological Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics, Photonics and Optical Engineering.

Position Summary:

The Dean provides ultimate oversight for all aspects of academic life within the college, including academic programs, strategic planning, personnel, fiscal management, accreditation, and program assessment. The Dean has primary responsibilities for external partnerships and collaborations and also advances the mission and development of the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE). The Dean is a twelve (12) month non-unit professional employee.

This position may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement based on university policy and operational needs as determined by the supervisor of record.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Dean reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The Dean supervises all faculty and staff assigned to the College, both directly and indirectly, under the various collective bargaining agreements.

Position Type: Professional Non-Unit

Essential Duties:

1. Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to students by providing visionary leadership to the College, coordinating planning at both the strategic and operational levels, and overseeing the coordination, organization, and supervision of instructional programs in the College.2. Prepare and regulate a budget for the College, allocate resources to departments and programs in the College being attentive to University and College needs, while displaying a spirit of transparency and careful financial stewardship.3. Work with University leaders to ensure and support a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout the College.4. Articulate the goals of the College and be a champion for the College, both within the University and to the outside community.5. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators on enrollment, retention, student success, and other strategic initiatives.6. Develop and maintain a collegial working environment within the College, between the College and other Colleges, and between the College and the senior administration.7. Partner with the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies and with the Dean of the College of Continuing Studies on various programs, initiatives, and projects.8. Coordinate with the Deans in the Colleges of Education and Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Business to support interdisciplinary initiatives, education and pre-health professional programs, and external outreach.9. Supervise assessment and program review within the College and facilitate the use of results to improve programs.10. Ensure appropriate accreditations are secured, supported, and maintained for programs within the College.11. Collaborate with the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects and Office of Alumni and Development to secure external funding for the College.12. Conduct regular evaluations of all faculty and staff within the College.13. Supervise, mentor, and provide professional development opportunities to the faculty and staff within the College.14. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• An earned doctorate in a field represented by a department of the College, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated success in teaching, service, administration, and scholarly pursuits.
• A commitment to putting students first.
• An ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, students, administrators, parents, K-12 personnel, and other external constituencies.
• Administrative experience at the level of department chair or above.
• Excellent communication skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to shared governance, collegiality, transparency, collaboration, and educational excellence.
• A strong commitment to academic innovation, global engagement, and high-impact educational Practices.
• Extensive experience with professional accrediting agencies.
• Knowledge of higher education practices and trends, including but not limited to curriculum and instruction.
• An aptitude for fundraising.
• Strong commitment to advancing the mission of the University in collaboration with academic and other senior leaders.
• Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of, the mission of public regional universities.
• Experience with diverse professional learning communities.
• Integrity, good judgment, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A record of achievement that merits tenure with appointment at the rank of Professor in a department of the College.
• Experience generating funds from external constituencies (through fundraising, grants, etc.).
• Prior experience working in a unionized environment.
• Demonstrated strategic partnerships in key areas represented by the College.
