Full-Time Creative Director

Job Description

Responsible for Everytown’s brand direction from a design and creative perspective, the Creative Director works with designers, web developers, project managers, and campaigners, as well as Everytown’s outside vendors, to create and execute big ideas, with the persuasive abilities necessary to garner the support of various stakeholders.

The Creative Director must be a player-coach with the ability to organize, manage, and direct designers to execute creative projects. The Creative Director needs to be fluent in all facets of the creative process, have knowledge of industry best practices, and be willing to take risks and test creativity.

Responsibilities

Design Strategy

  • Translate campaign objectives into clear creative concepts
  • Develop creative programs and design concepts that meet the objectives of the organization and that advance Everytown’s brand strategy
  • Lead brainstorms, contribute ideas to achieve goals, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver successful projects

Management

  • Manage at least 2 direct reports, as well as interns
  • Lead cross-departmental brainstorming sessions
  • Oversee internal project management processes and tracking of requests
  • Encourage team members to take risks with creative projects and support them as they engage with departments who will be giving feedback and making requests
  • Cultivate the team’s professional development by providing constructive criticism and encouraging skill mastery
  • Manage the creative process with Everytown’s outside agencies as necessary

Content Creation & Oversight

  • Personally develop content as needed
  • Ensure all creative is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for performance and accessibility on all channels including web, social media, email, SMS, print materials, swag, tabling displays, merchandise,l and video
  • Provide quality control over concepts and projects
  • Meet with senior leadership to describe design strategies and solutions

Brand Positioning

  • Support the ongoing rollout of Everytown’s established brand and manage utilization of umbrella brands, including c3, c4, Victory Fund, PACs, Students Demand Action, Moms Demand Action, Everytown Survivor Network, Be SMART, Wear Orange, One Thing You Can Do, Community Safety Fund, and rapid response campaigns as needed.
  • Recognize and address brand update needs in a quickly evolving design sector
  • Work with Everytown’s departments to ensure consistent brand messaging, visual identity and voice in accordance with brand guidelines
  • Develop systems and tools for the organization to utilize and leverage the brand across the grassroots movement while maintaining the quality of the brand
  • Support Everytown’s consultants in the development and execution of the creative assets of the brand campaign
  • Create a rolodex of illustrators, technical designers, and freelancers from across the country and different backgrounds to add diversity to the design of the movement.

  • Help build and retain a best-in-class creative department
  • Become an expert on Everytown’s work
  • Other related duties as assigned

Note: This position will be based from our NYC office or DC office and will require the potential hire to work on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office and 2 days remote on a weekly basis).

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in design, art/creative direction
  • Portfolio required
  • Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) required
  • Bachelor’s degree in creative or communications-based field
  • Passionate creative professional motivated by Everytown’s mission
  • Strong project management skills, able to lead projects from concept to completion
  • Ability to lead creative collaborator and thought partner through stellar communication and interpersonal skills, able to balance a customer service mindset with realistic expectation-setting for internal departments
  • Excellent presentation and persuasion skills, able to pitch concepts to everyone from team members to board members and executives
  • Teamwork-oriented problem solver
  • A strong understanding of brand development and multichannel marketing concepts
  • Strong emphasis on ensuring content is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust across a broad range of users and abilities.
  • An intimate understanding of industry trends, creative tools, and best practices
  • Knowledge of graphic fundamentals, including typography, layouts,
  • Outstanding manager, able to supervise, inspire, and train employees
