Primary Purpose
Provide direction, communication and strategic planning for all public affairs activities in an assigned portion of portions of SDG&E’s service territory. Provide leadership and management support to the Public Affairs Managers and Public Affairs Advisors on strategy, relationship management, program and infrastructure execution throughout assigned areas of responsibility. Develop and implement programs to increase the effectiveness of all five regions within SDG&E Regional public affairs. This role may require 24/7 support during emergencies or crisis situations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic public affairs activities within the assigned portion of the SDG&E service territory, to execute on stakeholder management, program implementation and infrastructure development.
  • Manage and have ownership of the energy dialogue within the assigned region, including managing relationships with elected officials, other utilities, agencies, advocacy organizations and key staff.
  • Counsel and guide internal project and policy teams on external landscape to accomplish corporate objectives.
  • Develop assigned public affairs staff members and their skillsets, including goal management and core supervisory tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree – preferably within business administration, public policy or political science.
  • 6+ years experience in public affairs, government affairs or related field of expertise.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information in a clear concise manner in writing and verbally.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory and management qualities.
  • Understanding of the legislative process and political acumen.
  • Ability to assess public policy issues and develop strategic plans to exceed corporate goals.
  • Requires ability to quickly forge new business and political relationships with external and internal contacts.
  • Requires ability to coordinate and work collaboratively across many different disciplines, to understand and synthesize new information from a variety of sources, and to identify and set priorities.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Will require local business travel in the Orange County area.

Preferred Qualification 

  • 3 years supervisory experience.
