Full-Time FAA UAS Test Site Operator Designee

Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an FAA UAS Test Site Operator Designee. The State of Nevada has approved that a Test Site Project Management Office (PMO) will be established at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and will be led by the Executive Director of Corporate Partnerships and supported by FAA UAS Test Site Operator Designee under the Nevada Center for Applied Research (NCAR). The Site Operator Designee will assist NCAR, faculty, students, and staff at the University in conducting research, development, testing, and safety verification of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), unmanned aerial mobility (UAM), and related navigational procedures to safely integrate public and civil UAS and UAM into the National Airspace System (NAS). The position reports to the Executive Director of Corporate Partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and four years (4) of related experience OR a Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related experience

Related Experience:
Familiar with 14CFR91 Regulations
Proficient with fixed wing and multi-rotor drones using traditional radio controller
Proficient with one or more autopilots including Pixhawk
Proficient with general UAS maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of 14CFR91 Regulations
Strong verbal and written skills
Strong troubleshooting and training skills
Qualified and proficient Private Pilot (PPL)
Demonstrated small team leadership skills
Ability to employ Operational Risk Management (ORM) in real world operations
Ability to operate in austere conditions
Ability to lift 25 pounds

Certification and Licensure:
Certified 14CFR107 Remote Pilot
Driver’s License
A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Schedule:
In-state and out-of-state travel as needed
