Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong is a statewide self-advocacy organization that supports, nurtures, and promotes self-advocacy in youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to empower self-advocates through education so we make choices that improve and enrich our lives.
The training coordinator leads multiple teams of three to five self-advocate trainers. We are looking for a Training Coordinator for our Awareness and Action (A&A), Self-Advocacy Leadership Series (SALS), Healthy Self-Advocates, along with other internal and external organizational training initiatives, including the orientation and onboarding of new Peer Trainers.
The Training coordinator is responsible for understanding all training curricula and guiding self-advocates peer trainers to deliver training both in-person as well as virtually via Zoom. The coordinator manages requests, provides information, processes applications, sets up course materials, and schedules locations and calendar invites for each two to three-hour training. The coordinator reaches out and works with residential service providers, self-advocacy groups, school programs, and individual self-advocates with disabilities to schedule, deliver, track participant data, and follow-up on each training. The coordinator provides orientation to new trainers while also providing supervision, direction, and scheduling support to current trainers.
We are looking for someone that is professional, has strong communication skills, is very organized, and has experience working with or supporting people with disabilities. A successful candidate is someone that can manage and prioritize external and internal training initiatives while also supporting the development of new training and educational materials that support the organization.
This is a Part-Time Non-Exempt position for 30 hours per week, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday (with 2 to 3 Saturday meetings per year for special events). The position requires someone to work in-person at our Boston Office 75% of the time (3 days in-person, and 1 day remote). Our Boston office is located steps away from North Station with easy access to the T and Commuter rail trains.
The starting rate for this position is $20.00 – $23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, for 30 hours a week with the potential to move to full-time. The organization offers prorated reimbursement of your private Health Insurance (for a 30 hour a week PT position the reimbursement would be 37.5% of the health insurance premium). The position is also eligible for reimbursement for travel/mileage based on training project activities/needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide resources, support and build relationships with existing and new training team members
- Conduct weekly Zoom calls to trainers to check in about resources, scheduling, timesheets and other needs.
- Assist with capturing work hours via timesheets to be submitted as part of MASS’s payroll process.
- Email or mail any relevant materials to members of training teams as needed.
- Support training team members with their technology, and meet them at agreed upon times in person to offer support.
- Organize and facilitate weekly team training practices, meetings, and supervision both in-person and on Zoom
- Schedule space, create Zoom links, and communicate information to training teams.
- Create and update dashboards of schedules, practices, orientation, and training using Google Sheets and Google Calendar.
- Schedule and coordinate training with external groups and organizations both in person, hybrid, and on Zoom.
- Maintain and develop relationships with trainees and training groups and locations.
- Coordinate logistics such as technology needs, accessibility and materials.
- Communicate logistics, timelines, outcomes, and next steps to related parties.
- Become an organizational expert on training curriculum, related resources, documents, and materials, and update when necessary
- Review training curriculum and scripting on a regular basis.
- Communicate updates to all training teams making sure materials and communication is accessible
- Create and update orientation on existing training curricula with project partners
- Work with other MASS staff to identify other training opportunities to benefit the organization and other team members
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years experience in self-advocacy, community organizing, human rights or comparable experience.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Comfort in facilitating groups, training activities, and online webinar presentations to participants and stakeholders.
- Experience with Zoom and online conferencing platforms required.
- Experience in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Calendar) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
- Vehicle to travel throughout Massachusetts is preferred. Willing to consider someone that has reliable access and comfort regularly using public transportation.
- A willingness to learn and grow with the position as new opportunities and funding becomes available.
- Knowledge of domestic and/or sexual violence is a plus
- Familiarity with organizing, networking and creating connections with other groups and allies.
