Part-Time Journals Manager
Job Description
The role
The Journals Manager is responsible for the operational management of the journals team and a portfolio of key journals. They manage staff to deliver on business plan objectives and to develop a growing list of journals. The role is advertised as a 10-month fixed-term, part-time (28hrs/week) maternity leave cover starting in mid-November 2023.
What will you be doing?
You will devise annual plans and strategies to ensure publication targets are met, monitor and report on the performance of the journals list, develop strong working relationships with journal Editors, Editorial Boards and other stakeholders, manage the launch of new journals, and work with the Senior Journals Marketing Executive on marketing strategies and development.
Providing support to the Journals and Open Access Director for forecasting and budgeting is also key to the role as well as monitoring spend throughout the year. You will manage the journals team to work collaboratively and hit editorial and marketing targets and will directly line manage four members of the team.
You should apply if
You have significant experience of managing a successful list of academic journals, with an in-depth understanding of the scholarly publishing environment. Experience of financial and people management, budgeting, contracts and publishing ethics will be essential, as will the ability to solve problems and juggle competing demands. Friendly, analytical and with excellent interpersonal skills, you will have a strong track record of meeting your strategic targets and KPIs in previous roles.
