JOB TITLE: MSC CUTTING MACHINE OPERATOR, LEVEL 1 – LEAD

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION 

This is a safety-sensitive position; all team members have the responsibility for their own safety and those around them. Per company policy, being under the influence is not permitted while on Company premises. Team members must be clear-minded and diligent while operating machinery.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Receive daily work order assignments from Supervisor and prepare fabric set-up in accordance with work orders.

  • Pull orders in order of priority (tags first)
  • Machine setup and monitoring of machine condition
  • Operation of 2 machines per shift
  • Responsible for keeping the machines running at a high level of continuous production to eliminate unnecessary downtime.
  • Must be able to go in and out of the cutter program for machine adjustment and diagnosing issues.
  • Maintain Daily Cut Log & Machine maintenance log
  • Receive, inspect, and stock fabric
  • Handle all repairs in a timely manner
  • Cut samples for sales and be prepared to handle offshoot requests for order fulfillment

•     Ability to solve problems and work with a team to continuously improve production processes and achieve daily production goals.

•     Must maintain quality assurance standards.

•     Must be able to communicate with Supervisor to assist with problem-solving.

•     Housekeeping of all areas.

•     Anything else deemed necessary by the supervisor.

 

 

o Level 1: Team member must be able to load and unload material racks, and must be able to assist in loading of cutter as required. Must be able to follow the process to turn cutters on & off. Must consistently achieve a quality level of 97% and productions efficiency levels of 80% efficiency (achieved by establishing/maintaining Cutting Avg. range of 3.5 – 4.5 cuts/hour) within a 90-day probationary period; must assume personal responsibility for achieving quality goals and demonstrating continuous improvement towards achieving 100% efficiency on assigned work within 6 months.

o Level 2: Must be able to set up the machine, go in and out of the cutter program for machine adjustment and problem-solving, monitor machine condition, and communicate with Supervisor on machine problems. Must consistently achieve a quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 95% (achieved by establishing/maintaining Cutting Avg range of 4.5 – 5.5 cuts/hour) without refresher training; able to share and demonstrate best practice cutting methods with other cutters.

o Level 3:  Must consistently achieve a quality level of 97% and production efficiency levels of 105% (achieved by establishing/maintaining Cutting Avg range of above 5.5 cuts/hour) without refresher training; able to share and demonstrate best practice cutting methods with other cutters.

o Cutting Lead: Must have basic knowledge of all job functions within the department and be able to assist in all areas as needed. Must count production work and report to supervisor. Must be able to train new cutting personnel. Needs to have the knowledge and working understanding of all procedures and troubleshooting capabilities of the Machine Maintenance program and schedule.  The Team Lead will communicate with Supervisor to assist with problem-solving and offer suggestions for continuous improvement, set up daily workflow, and assist department personnel in solving any work-in-process problems. The Team Lead is responsible for knowing the location of all items within the department and can assist with locating them. The Team Lead is a working leader who fills a production role daily. Must fill in for Supervisor at meetings as needed. Must be able to assist with inventory. Will assist the manager in handling daily personnel issues.

 

 

AUTHORITY:

All personnel are responsible for quality and therefore have the authority to stop production, if necessary, to correct quality problems. 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • • Must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team to achieve daily production goals.
  • • Able to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • • Able to comply with company safety, attendance and all other company policies.
  • • Good communication skills both with peers and supervisors.
  • • Must be computer literate.
  • • Must be able to read and write English.
  • • Basic math skills.
  • • Ability to utilize data collection systems which may include data entry into a tablet or computer.

 

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:

Must have full knowledge of lay-up and/or prep procedures prior to running Cutting equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • • Must have 20/20 vision or correction to 20/20.
  • • Must be able to distinguish colors and shades.
  • • Must be able to stand or sit the entire shift.
  • • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • • Must be able to work at moderate noise levels.
  • • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • • Must be able to stoop, squat, bend, stretch, and twist.
