Full-Time Bunloit Estate Manager
Job Description
Bunloit Estate Manager
A flagship nature recovery project in the Highlands of Scotland seeks an Estate
Manager for the Bunloit Estate, near Drumnadrochit in Inverness-shire. Bunloit
Estate is on the shores of Loch Ness and contains a mosaic of habitats from native
woodland to peatland, pastures to plantations.
The purpose of Highlands Rewilding is to enable nature recovery and community
prosperity, through rewilding at scale. Land is managed to facilitate measurable
increases in biodiversity and carbon sequestration, to generate ethical profits, and
to enable community engagement/involvement in rewilding.
The role
The Estate Manager will coordinate planning and management of all aspects of
work across Bunloit Estate.
The role will involve:
Leading on budget management and reporting for Bunloit estate, including
preparing long-term revenue and cost forecasts for business planning
purposes.
Management of estate employees and contractors (currently two rangers
and a deer management contractor).
Responsibility for management and maintenance of all buildings and
equipment. For the three properties used for eco-tourism and corporate
retreats this includes leading changeovers and ensuring client satisfaction.
Collaborating with the Science team to develop the land management plan,
and the associated programme of surveying and monitoring.
Implementing the land management plan, including liaising with visiting
scientific researchers and the local farmer on the grazing regime; and
overseeing activities such as peatland restoration.
Working within the health and safety policies and protocols of Highlands
Rewilding and helping maintain high standards of health and safety
management for the team, neighbours and visitors.
Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with neighbours
and members of the local community, including organising community
engagement events and volunteer activities.
Being an active participant in the team striving to enable nature recovery
and community prosperity through rewilding.
Experience in some of the above areas and/or relevant transferrable skills, and
enthusiasm for nature recovery are essential.
The role will be predominantly based on Bunloit Estate with some opportunity for
remote working (particularly in the winter months when there are fewer visitors to
site). The successful candidate will live within travelling distance of the estate, or be
prepared to relocate accordingly. This will be a full-time role of Monday-Friday,
9am–5pm. On occasion, there may be a need to work outside of these hours. We
are open to considering part-time or flexible work arrangements.
The salary will be in the range of £32,000 – £40,000, depending on experience. The
successful applicant will report to the CEO.
We are building a team and a culture that recognises and values different
backgrounds, mindsets, skills, and experience and we are advertising widely as a
result. Additionally, as important elements of the Highlands Rewilding model are its
strong connection to communities in the Highlands of Scotland and its aim to create
local employment, we will be interested in candidates who may have those
connections.
