Full-Time Research Clinician

San Francisco Department of Public Health – Posted by csuh.sfdph San Francisco, California, United States

Job Description

Heluna Health invites applications for the full-time position of research clinician in the Center on Substance Use and Health (CSUH) at the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

CSUH conducts pharmacologic and behavioral interventions, observational studies, and related activities to maximize the health outcomes of people who use alcohol, methamphetamine, opioids, cocaine, and other substances. We work with people who are actively using substances, and focus on meeting their goals related to their substance use, including reduction in use or harms, prevention or treatment of infectious diseases, or prevention of drug overdose. We conduct research in a community-based environment in downtown San Francisco, with the facilities and resources needed to perform complex clinical research studies. We are proud to treat people who use substances with respect and dignity and enjoy a close-knit culture of intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and fun.

An integral member of the Center, the research clinician will work on a wide range of studies for people who use substances. Along with study start-up activities and ongoing study visits with participants, the research clinician will perform physical exams, screen study participants for substance use disorders and mental health disorders, dispense study medication, perform phlebotomy, and collect other biological specimens. You will also aid in the clinical supervision of research associates. You will have the opportunity to participate in other research activities in close collaboration with the principal investigators, from grant writing to publication of study results. You must be willing to work on a team and enjoy problem solving, as nearly all our studies are investigator-initiated.

An additional role for this position will include clinician educator in the Center for Innovation in Academic Detailing on Opioids (CIAO; www.ciaosf.org), to provide academic detailing or related training activities regarding substance use management in clinical care.
