London Fire Brigade is looking for Personal Assistant to support the Fire Stations Assistant Commissioner. The Assistant Commissioner has the responsibility of 103 fire stations and their staff providing a service to the people of London, as well as representing the London Fire Brigade at external engagements. The position of Personal Assistant is a key role in supporting the strategic management of the Brigade. The directorate of Operational Delivery is a busy, fast moving and exciting place to work as we strive to continually deliver the best possible service to London.

As an exceptionally organised people-person you are able to demonstrate attention to detail, understand that even the smallest matters are important. You are confident and effective in handling a multitude of different tasks at one time, you can anticipate potential problems and avoid them, but once a problem occurs, you can think of several ways to positively address them.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with a proven track record in this field and are able to communicate both verbally and in writing to a high standard. You can manage your time and a strategic managers time effectively; you are great at managing your tasks and priorities and that of those around you. The ability to deal with people at all levels and second guessing the needs of the Assistant Commissioner at all times would prove a great asset in this role.

Stage 1

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
